Are there any third party softwares that can edit mpg video clips?

What do normal camcorders save their clips as if they are not mpg- are they normally avi?

If my clips are mpg, do I need to convert them one by one to avi to be able to edit them in WMM or Adobe Premiere?

When I convert them, do I lose quality?

If you own a Sony DCR-SX63- what do you use to edit your movies?

I am pulling out my hair, please help.

i noticed there is a charge for that software. is it necessary to pay for the software when there are free ones available? i'm curious if you get better quality, less freezes with a paid software. i am open, just wondering what the benefits are...

The problem with MPeg editors is the royalty required for the MPeg codec. Did the camcorder come with any editing software?

It you shop rebates carefully, you can get the net cost of entry programs below ~$30. You may find less than that for non-HD used versions.

Freeware solutions will take some learning curve.

What is your version of Windows? Vista Home Premium and Win7 Home Premium support MPeg input into WMM and limited DVD output (Windows DVD Maker). Adobe products include a royalty paid MPeg codec (not the demo).

Different camcorders use different formats. There is no such thing as "normal".
