  1. I have a Pinnacle DC10Plus M-JPEG card using VirtualDub. Inside VD I can view my entire list of video codecs on my system. But when I go to "Capture AVI" mode, then goto Video and select Compression, no video codecs are listed. My system is a AMD K6-2 500 256mb and a 8 meg AGP onboard vide card.

    Any suggestions?

  2. Virtual Dub will only show codecs that are compatible with your current capture "format"

Therefore you need to set that format first.

There are two things in "format" that can cause a codec not to appear in the compression menu.

    1. The resolution may not be suported. Many codecs require that your resolution be a multiple of 8, 4, or 16. If you try to capture at 301 x 217, its not going to work. Use a standard resolution: 320x240 if you want small every other field captures, or 640x480 if you want to capture interlaced video with both frames.

    2. Make sure the capture format is either YUY2 or 24 bit RGB as those are the most frequently used and are pretty well compatible with most codecs. I don't know about your capture card, but a lot of them internally with YUY2 and only extrapolate to 24bit RGB if you ask for it. Therefoer YUY2 is a good choice. Also, make sure your capture card is using VFW drivers and not WDM drivers.

    Good luck.
