    Hi

I have a laptop that is set up to turn to screensaver after 5 minutes of inactivity, and turn off the screen completely after 15 minutes of inactivity.

That should take care of the screen. How about the computer itself? What is the safe amount of time I should leave it on without killing it? I am using WinXP.

    Thanks

You should be able to leave it on as long as you want, really. If you are concerned about heat you can get a cooling base, which is a platform that has some fans which the laptop sits on.

When not in use I always turn mine off and turn off the power bar its attached to, not so much because of the laptop but more because of the AC adapter. I never truly trust those things. When I'm working on laptop or rendering something on it, I don't worry how long its on.

  3. As long as it has space for ventilation you should be able to leave it indefinitely, in theory. I use mine for 7-8 hours a day for the last 8 months and have no heat problems. Just leave it on a flat surface where the hot air can escape as designed.

As suggested already, if you are truly concerned get a cooling base.

Thanks. There is plenty of space for ventilation underneath my laptop.
