I'm looking to get a new printer.

    - It must be a color laser with 11x17 printing abilities.
    - Full-bleed printing is highly desired (both 8½x11 and 11x17).
    - Pantone color or Pantone matching would be nice.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

I was looking for the HP 5550DN for our company, but decided to go with Konica CCP500. The printer will be in next couple weeks. The HP 5550DN has the ability to print 8 1/2X11 and 11X17. I hope it helps you little bit.

    I'm strongly considering this one:
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/505703-REG/Konica_Minolta_4039321_magicolor_7450...ge_Format.html

But still very much open to suggestions.

Thanks vcdlover, but I can't find anything online about that model. Is "CCP500" correct?

My own personal observation is that HP toner tends to be more distorted than Konica/Minolta toners. Agree, disagree?

My bad. It is Konica CPP500.

We were going to go with HP, but the cost of maintaince and toner were too high. We end up leasing the Konica CPP500 for the price of the HP 5550DN. The leasing company provides us the toner and service. The CPP500 has the ability to scan and save the tiff files on the network and you can convert those to PDF. The printer you mentioned looks really good. The toner is much cheaper than the HP. Have fun hunting...

    Hi Smurf,

Sounds like you are looking for something graphics oriented. The HP CLJ5550 does allow you to change the colour space but will not give you the ability to build ICC colour profiles in either CMYK or RGB. HP's lower end colour machines use a PostScript 3 emulation. If you are in a Mac world or rely heavily on Adobe products for output then true Adobe PostScript 3 is going to be important to you. The only way around this is to add an external RIP (such as Fiery) but you drive the cost up quickly. You may want to check out the Xerox Phaser 7760. Many graphic designers use this printer for pre-press proofing. The colour is great and it gives you the control you need and Adobe PostScript 3 to boot. Expensive to buy and more expensive to run than the 5550.

If your print volume is low you can also consider some of HP's smaller desktop DesignJets, such as the 130nr. Ink is more expensive than toner but you get stunning output on a huge variety of medias as well as full bleed up to 24" wide and 150' in length.

If your print volume is high, check out HP's new CM8050/8060 with the Edgeline technology...full bleed 11"x17" colour inkjet @ up to 60 pages per minute. The ink is less expensive than toner. It also copies, scans, faxes, digital sender...you get the idea.
