I know there is a way to hookup a video game system so that you may record video content from the game onto your PC. I just don't know how to do it.

Someone told me that they had something that hooked into their modem and they would hook their video game system to that.

Does anyone know what they are talking about? If so, where I could purchase that item?

If that is done, how do I then go about viewing this content on the monitor and capturing it in video format?

    Thank you

Fraps is great for recording yourself playing a game on your PC, but for recording yourself playing a console game, you'll want a video capture device like this one. There are many out there from a wide price range, so shop around before you make the investment.

and as far as a device that hooks into the modem and the game console? that will allow for online gameplay, perhaps he has a switch or router.

That is a good product and very user friendly. However, when I hookup the system with the red, white, and yellow audio/video cables. I get the error message 'A valid input Signal cannoty be detected, please check your cables'. The cables are good. I'm at a loss. I've gone through every possible set of settings and I always get that message whenever I go to capture.

Anyone familiar with this product? (Studio 10)

It's hooked up through the Pinnacle 500-USB device. Directly through the audio/video cables of an Xbox 360.

Maybe this product will not do what I need it to do, I don't know...

Let me be as specific as possible.

I need to hookup my Xbox 360 to my PC.

Be able to play the game and simultaneously record myself playing the game so that I can use that video for my website. I may need to edit the video for length and to maybe add music or text.

What is the product that you guys would reccomend that will be able to do this?

    1. Hookup the 360 to my pc
    2. view the video feed on my monitor
    3. record that video feed to a mpeg or avi
    4. edit the video file

    Thanks!!!!

I have never used this product. The only similar device I have used was a TV tuner card that allowed me to record TV and watch it on my PC, but it took coax cable from the wall without any need for a TV.

You could try plugging the Xbox into the TV and assuming there are another set of plugs coming out of the TV, plug them into the device. Also, try using other software than there own, like VirtualDub or Adobe Premiere.

Also, since your PC will be doing all of the recording and encoding work, make sure you have a powerful machine. 1Gig+ of RAM and 2Ghz+ Processor speed is a must so it can record and encode in real time at a reasonable size and resolution.

The xp1800 , being amd , is more like 1500mhz when compared to intel cpus .

Usb capture devices generally require a cpu rated above 2000mhz or better , especially when it comes to full d1 resolution , high quality captures ... with xp , that could include sp2 if the device was specifically designed for usb2 .

Some programs used by capture devices are intensive on system resources , and thats even before they start capturing , which cause's problems ... ulead videostudio being one of many do this , and is not a good idea .

Being the device is usb , you dont have many , or any choices when it comes down to programs that can be used with the device ... it be best to get a PCI device such as the wintv-pvr-150 , which is a hardware mpeg encoder , and dosent rely on the pc specs , except where the final file needs to go during capture .

Nero express may be another , better suited product , for capturing from the usb device ... less strain on system resources from my tests with avertv usb2 .

Only those who dont know what their doing will report "you need more ram" ... its a pile of baloney .

Even a p3 800mhz + 128mb ram system , with the correct capture device and suitable video compression codec , can record in full d1 resolution , without frame drop issue .

Forget about tv tuners biult into these devices , use vtr mode in capture program ... rca input for newbies , and when you need to change channels , use the vcr ... its a superior tuner .

    As for the xbox360 :

Make sure you have the component hd av cable only , set it to TV only .
There are six outputs split into two groups ... only use yellow / red / white ... forget the other three exist .
In xbox360 menu , set output fomat for country ... nstc or pal .
For pal its pal-60 , 480p ... no point in trying to set it to other , because it may just say NO .

If you pass the yellow (video) , red/white (audio) via vcr , you can play the game on tv , and record on pc via connecting from vcr's video/audio rca outputs

Not all tv's have video / audio outputs ... a rare feature .

To capture the best picture quality from any capture device , its best to capture audio from linein on pc sound device only ... if device came with passthrough cable ... throw that cable in the bin

Remember : Component hd av cable must be set to TV only .
