I have roughly 20 videos standing on my laptop that I want to put on DVD so I can watch them on my TV. They are around 400 megs each and in AVI compression... but when I put them on a video DVD (for the TV) they bloat to a 2.5GB each... Therefore I can only put 1 full video per DVD (not really worth it).
Is there anyway to keep roughly the same size as it started (400) and still be able to watch it, or am I stuck burning dozens of DVD?
Thanks in advance

Sure. Get a player capable of playing DivX/XVid AVIs.

Otherwise, you're going to have to convert. If you're interested in putting multiple videos on a disc, in DVD-Video format, you can use a program like ConvertXToDVD, DVD Flick, etc. However, to fit more videos on a disc, the programs will lower the quality of the videos. From the description you've given, your videos would probably lose quite a bit if you attempted to put all 20 of them on one disc.If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

If you want reasonable quality then you are restricted to between 2 and 3 hours on a DVD. If you are happy to sacrifice some quality and go to a lower resolution then you can stretch this out to 7 hours at VCD quality.

The bitrate of heavily compressed video (Divx/Xvid/MP4 etc) cannot be compared to mpeg2 (DVD). A general, but not absolute, rule is to expect a 3 - 4 fold increase in size. NeroVision will bloat them even more.

The advice given above - to get a Divx/Xvid capable player - is the best option if this is the format you have most of.Read my blog here.
