I have roughly 20 videos standing on my laptop that I want to put on DVD so I can watch them on my TV. They are around 400 megs each and in AVI compression... but when I put them on a video DVD (for the TV) they bloat to a 2.5GB each... Therefore I can only put 1 full video per DVD (not really worth it).

Is there anyway to keep roughly the same size as it started (400) and still be able to watch it, or am I stuck burning dozens of DVD?

    Thanks in advance

Sure. Get a player capable of playing DivX/XVid AVIs.

Otherwise, you're going to have to convert. If you're interested in putting multiple videos on a disc, in DVD-Video format, you can use a program like ConvertXToDVD, DVD Flick, etc. However, to fit more videos on a disc, the programs will lower the quality of the videos. From the description you've given, your videos would probably lose quite a bit if you attempted to put all 20 of them on one disc.

If you want reasonable quality then you are restricted to between 2 and 3 hours on a DVD. If you are happy to sacrifice some quality and go to a lower resolution then you can stretch this out to 7 hours at VCD quality.

The bitrate of heavily compressed video (Divx/Xvid/MP4 etc) cannot be compared to mpeg2 (DVD). A general, but not absolute, rule is to expect a 3 - 4 fold increase in size. NeroVision will bloat them even more.

The advice given above - to get a Divx/Xvid capable player - is the best option if this is the format you have most of.
