Capturing the blue screen with white DV tape graphic

I'm tryiing to capture the blue screen with white DV tape graphic you see when you play back or rewind a tape in your camera
i've already tried to dub it (with RCA cables) with two DV Cameras but all i can capture is the blue screen
I really need the white tape "rolling" in there

I'm guessing that you can dump it onto a VHS deck and then recapture it...but that is the last resort
It seems like there should be an easier way to do this
Any input?

The time code appears on my S-Video output but not IEEE-1394. Is that what you see?

Just cap off S-video. If you can display time code on something other than the LCD there is no problem.

If you can't, you find a DV camcorder or player that can. (hint Sony).

Also most pro players do window dubs of TC.

If a Sony, check the menu setting for "Display" - you can typically choose LCD Only or LCD/Video Out.

I don't see the timecode at all

I have a Canon XL-1 that i shoot with and a ZR-10 that i use as a deck for capturing

I'll check the display settings on both

any more hints?
