Hey all,
I've got some HDTV .avi content that I need to convert to an .avi at a resolution my Toshiba SD3990 player will accept, as it won't do HD. Is there a guide/how-to on doing that?
Thanks

Ok, I got AVI recomp. What resolution should I convert this 1280 X 720 HD content to to play on my Toshiba player? My TV is 4:3. 1280 X 720 is 16:9 widescreen, right? If I converted it to 720 X 480 would that work and look ok on at 4:3?
Thanks. -
What is the maximum resolution listed in the player's manual?
According to this page: https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDnameid=6716&Search=Search
- the maximum resolution may be 720x480, but I'm not sure - a post near the top seems to say that it might not like anything over 700.
I'd also recommend AutoGK, with ESS mode enabled, for the purpose. AVI Recomp works, but I've just found AutoGK easier to work with.If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -

Thanks. I uninstalled and re-installed AutoGK a few times as well as Xvid. It seems to be working now. I agree, AutoGK seems to be the better program. I encoded 720x416. Tried converting the audio to 192kbs mp3. Video came out well and plays on my Toshiba but the audio isn't there. I guess I'm going to have to leave it AC3 at 384kbs.

Did you specify VBR MP3 or CBR MP3 under Advanced Settings? Some players might not like VBR audio. I'd wonder if using a lower bitrate like 128 might make a difference, except one of the posts on that player page I mentioned above says that the poster had the same 'no audio' problem with a 128kpbs audio track as with a 192.

I specified CBR 192kbs. The player is supposed to be able to play mp3s. Not sure about an mp3 audio track for a video tho. The original audio is 384kps AC3 6ch. Don't really need that and could save some file size if I could lower it.
Just found out that the Toshiba will play mp3 at 44.1 kHz only, between 32-320kbs CBR. My mp3 track is 48 kHz.
