I did 3 backups yesterday of my children's dvd's, Country Bears, Brother Bear, Jungle Book in prep for an Easter party.
I used Nero 6.6.0.18 and Shrink and Any DVD and all went well.

I have had no previous problems using the above programs. No coasters.

Then I went to backup a music concert dvd of my own and when I went into the "drop down" for the Drive and selected my External drive that I always use I got the Error:

    E: Local Volume Identifier

    This has never happened before.
Is there an Option that I don't have checked off??

I have done at least 30 backups with the combination of the above programs and all were successful until this Error.

Someone at my work said I should purchase the Nero Ultra 7 as it has Nero Recode and that this would solve my problem???

I don't know what to do and would appreciate your help.
    Thankyou for your time.

The Shrink version is 3.2 and yes my Any Dvd is updated. I did get a reply from another forum member where he also mentioned that some dvd's have something in the Boot Sector that causes problems in doing backups and he was wondering if this is the case. This is a Region 1 disc, Rita Coolidge "Walela Live In Concert".
I have a large library of baby boomer dvd's that I only use the backup disc that is in my album to play when friends come over, thus I would like to back this one up.

Thankyou for your replies and I hope to find a solution.

I uninstalled Shrink, did a Reg clean and a Reinstall and a Reboot; and still got "Local Volume Identifier" as the title in My Computer, however this time I was able to rip and burn with Nero and with Any DVD functioning and successfully did a Back up of the Rita Coolidge "Walela Live In Concert".

Does anyone know why the title does not show properly as my other Back ups do??? However it did work this time after a clean install.

I would appreciate comments as I don't understand "Local Volume Identifier".

    Thankyou.

Have you tried a "movie only" backup.....meaning removing the menu and any un-necessary stuff?

It almost sounds to me like it may be something specific to this disc only, perhaps the way it was mastered. Does it do the exact same thing on a friend's PC ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

Usually a "Local Volume Identifer" is from a disc that has been recorded by a standalone dvd recorder.

The DVD in question does appear to be from a lower budget outfit(NO OFFENSE). It might be that it was originally done on a DVD recorder then copied as necessary OR...they may have used the DVD recorder disc as a master....which would probably transfer the problems on and on and on.
A DVD recorder disc with no chapter markers will open in DVDShrink...but one with recorder-placed chapter markers will not(at least that has been my experience).
My two cents....your mileage may vary...

Thx for all of the great thought provoking comments, the dvd that I was trying to back up was simply the main movie.
Being a baby boomer that does not want to mess up a source disc that I had to send away for I don't want greasy hands on it to look at the cover etc. to read about it and then possibly have the dvd fall out and get scratched. It is just me, I have a "baby boomer" library of the Stones, Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, B Gees, Tina Turner, BB King, Roy Orbison, Kristofferson, and Country and I want my Originals kept immaculate.

This particular dvd was from the company Rich-Heape Films Inc.; Dallas Texas ; "Walela Live In Concert " and I had to buy it On line from Rita Coolidges site, so I know that it is not being distributed other than through that method. I checked with all my specialty shops in Vancouver here and none had the DVD listed and so I bought it this way.

I am a great fan of Rita Coolidge and had to do a lot of googling to buy this one and so I really did not want it to get damaged.

But this backup and what showed with that message opposite the External Drive seemed weird and it took an uninstall of Shrink to get it to work??? And I used again, I don't like repeating...but Nero 6.6.0.18 and Any DVD to get a final product as I have been doing with all of my others for sometime.

I like Shrink, not too thrilled about Nero and I like Any DVD; is there a program besides Nero that I can use instead and keep the other 2.
I don't want to get into Decrypter and simply want a VOB burning program as an alternative to Nero that does CD,data dvd, and regular and DL dvd.
I hope that experienced members can understand this garble of mine and offer suggestions to the latter part of my queries and also comment on this particular problematic dvd.
    Thankyou for your time.
Kind Regards on this Easter Season!!

Thought that I would post this as I would appreciate more of your experienced comments.

    Turn off AnyDVD
Use DVDDecrypter(sorry...I know you REALLY don't want to but)...ISO Read Mode and place the .ISO Image on your hard drive.
This mode will also tell you valuable info about the disc so someone can help you further. The info will be on the right hand side of the program. If it is a single layer disc"the original"...you then just re-burn that .ISO(that you placed on your hard drive) image WITH DVDDecrypter(in ISO Write Mode)....simple.
Delete the image apon testing the newly burned DVD.
Hopefully the original DVD does NOT have newer copy protection systems that have come out since DVDDecrypter "died".
