Okay I know this question has prob been asked? I've searched and search for hours on google about this, but cannot find a solid solution that doesn't require 3-4 progs and 10 steps +. I'm hoping somebody can provide a realistic solution that I and others can search for. I've searched for hours on end and found nothing but misinformation from Afterdawn forums etc...

So I have a DVD I ripped, some how it ended up ripping 1 large VOB file, which cannot be burned in the traditional manner using nero or anything else that I know of? Also, when I try and open the folder in DVD-Shrink I get that annoying "cannot find specified file" error? I'm not sure what to do with this, since it's missing the Video_TS.Vob file? I'm not sure how this even happened, I ripped the CD with DVD-Decrypter as standard. How do I burn this or split it properly? Can it be done w/o using a myriad of programs or can I just burn this to a DVD and try and re-rip it?

Looking in the folder, this is what is there:

    16,384 VIDEO_TS.BUP
    16,384 VIDEO_TS.IFO
    8,192 VIDEO_TS_MENU_1.VOB
    53,248 VTS_01_0.BUP
    53,248 VTS_01_0.IFO
    4,346,333,184 VTS_01_1.VOB
    657,408 VTS_01_MENU_1.VOB
    18,432 VTS_02_0.BUP
    18,432 VTS_02_0.IFO
    72,138,752 VTS_02_1.VOB
    8,192 VTS_02_MENU_1.VOB
    18,432 VTS_03_0.BUP
    18,432 VTS_03_0.IFO
    90,830,848 VTS_03_1.VOB
    8,192 VTS_03_MENU_1.VOB
    18,432 VTS_04_0.BUP
    18,432 VTS_04_0.IFO
    64,491,520 VTS_04_1.VOB
    8,192 VTS_04_MENU_1.VOB
    18,432 VTS_05_0.BUP
    18,432 VTS_05_0.IFO
    59,183,104 VTS_05_1.VOB
    8,192 VTS_05_MENU_1.VOB

I don't know how to "create" the file you need...VIDEO_TS.VOB

but you could extract the MPEG files (video+audio in 1 file) from the VOB files using VOB2MPG
(BTW You'd be losing the menus of the DVD and be starting again with the "source" video files)

Your main film looks to be VTS_01_1.VOB with the other VTS_0x...VOB's being the "extras"
(you will need to create a menu for the extra's unless you just want main film which is "acceptable")
Then burn an ISO DVD with Nero (can Nero make menu's????) and Shrink if you need etc ????

I don't have Nero so I use GUI for dvdauthor to create a nice DVD with menu's.
It's a bit more manual I imagine, but it's quite easy (with good instructions included) and is a very powerful tool.

    Good luck.

Use dvdfab to rip the dvd,DVD-Decrypter is way too old to rip newer dvds properly or at all..

In Decryptor go into Tools-Setting and open IFO Mode tab. Set File Splitting to 1GB and re rip.
Also File Mode tab, highlight File Splitting "By File".
You can also try ImgBurn to burn existing rip. I think it will accept large files to burn correct DVD.

That's the prob, my buddy wanted to borrow it, but I had not seen the movie yet, so I just made a rip till he gives it back. But I cannot make a proper one b/c something went wrong with the rip... But afaik, I do what I've always done and every other rip for diff movies comes out fine. Can I just split the VOB then with out all the crazy complex (seeming) steps, there's no simple way at all?

    Btw thanks everyone for responding!

  6. Can I just split the VOB then with out all the crazy complex (seeming) steps,
What crazy steps? Do what tinker says so DVD Decrypter splits by 1GB pieces and then decrypt again. No big deal. Somewhere along the line you set it up for no splitting.

Or, if intending to burn to disc, you can set it for Mode->ISO->Read followed by Mode->ISO->Write.

No, I meant with out the disc in hand, and just with the files that I have. When I go to watch it w/WMPc it shows menus and everything as it should etc. DvD-Decrypter can split files on HD? Looks like it only supports disc ripping afaik?

  8. Oh, I see, you screwed up, and now are trying to fix it. So, what about this:

How's your buddy going to borrow it if you don't even have it? This looks pretty fishy to me so you'll get no help here.

Uuuugh I knew the DMCA alarms would go off on this one. I LENT HIM the disc, which I had not even watched yet. So I made a rip of it, and gave it to him. He lives 100miles away so I don't visit that often. I have the Rip of it, a la MY backup, which is perfectly legal. It's just the rip went wrong, as noted.

    Thanks anyhow.

Update: SO here's what I did... I burn the backup to disc in UDF mode. Then reripped in DVDecrypt in IFO mode, selected the 4GB VOB and all the following vobs and ripped them back to HD. The 4GB was split in 1GB chunks... but the directory they are in are missing a lot of the typical *.Bup files etc. that the original rip had. So I'm assuming it won't play properly or that menus won't be showing...?

Is there any way to use the split 4GB Vob files to reassemble the proper menu structuring or replace the 4GB file in the backup dir? I'm not sure if these questions are valid, since I know little about DVD structuring. Can someone lend a hand please?

    The solution is very simple:
    1. rename VIDEO_TS_MENU_1.VOB to VIDEO_TS.VOB
    2. now open the DVD files in DVDShrink 3.2, let it analyze it, and then click on "Backup!" and save in another folder. Thus you get the original DVD structure (as was on the source DVD) which can be burnt to DVD and play as any normal DVD.

    4 YEARS later
and I finally receive an answer lmfao AMAZING! This is hilarious in a good way, people like myself always wonder, "wtf is anyone going to answer, I KNOW someone knows a solution or has a potential one, but wtf nobody is posting???" Haha thanks a lot for taking the time to answer, I've long moved on past this issue (not sure if I ever fixed it?? haha) Wow 4yrs!
