  1. I have seen alot of people trying to convert divx downloads. I am one of those also. The most common of these files is 600? x 200? or something close. The frame rate is usually 23.97. The biggest problem seems to be when wanting full screen playback on t. v. the picture is all egghead right? This is from selecting fullscreen. When you select no margin it cuts too much of the left and the right off. And when you convert to full screen (keep aspect ratio) the picture is way too small for some of us. The black borders on the top and bottom seem to take up to half screen. So if you dont have a big screen the picture can be quite small. Here is the fix, now keep in mind this is just a happy medium but it works for me. First off go with tmpgenc load your vcd template for film. Then go back and unlock it so you can make changes. Next under video tab make sure the aspect ratio is 4:3 525 ntsc. Open up the advance tab under the source aspect ratio select 1:1 vga. Under the video arrange method select center(custom size). Now scroll down to the clipframe and put a check in the box. double click the clipframe to open it. From here you will see clipframe setting or arrange setting or mask color setting. open the one in the middle arrange settings. You will see arranged method center custom size. Leave this where it is at. Under the size put in 400 x 200. What this will give you is a bigger picture with less border so you will see more on t.v. and it also gives you a less egghead affect because it really isn't a true fullscreen. Let me know what you think and please try it because it works.

  4. you do know that widescreen is the format movies are shot in right? if you want a bigger picture why dont you just do what they do with TV and cut off the sides instead of distorting the aspect ratio. sure you wont have the whole picture but you never do with full screen thats why many people enjoy widescreen, to see the whole movie.
    peace out,

  5. Like I stated in the article it is just a happy medium at best. It was meant for people who wanted a larger view on their t. v.

Just to clarify, when film is converted to fullscreen for tv broadcasting they do not just cut off the sides. They do a proper pan and scan transfer. If you simply cut off the sides then for any given frame you may be missing the most important part of the picture. Pan and scan conversions pan the screen and zoom in or out before cutting off the sides, ensuring that what you are seeing actually makes sense.

If this method works for you than go ahead and use it. Just be aware that this is not the preferred way to convert widescreen to fullscreen.
