Producers of Oscar-winning film "The Hurt Locker" have made good on a promise to file copyright lawsuits against people who have illegally downloaded the movie via file-sharing networks.
Voltage Pictures, an independent production company, filed a copyright complaint on Monday against 5,000 John Does in federal court in Washington, D.C. According to court records, next on the company's to-do list is to learn the names of each of the John and Jane Does from their Internet service providers.
and that's just the ones at the top of their list.....

"The Hurt Locker" won six Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director, but only grossed $16 million in the United States.
Like because it did so well at the "oscars" it should have made millions more and because it did not it must be because of illegal downloaders....
When i first read your post i could not even remember what this movie was about, the title sounded familiar but i could not even place it until i looked at the article and saw the screen shot.
I have never seen it, and may never see it because i am sure i will forget all about it again within a few hours, and i love war movies!!
Most of my life the majority of movies that were supposed to be great, sucked, and the one's that supposedly sucked, rocked!!
LOL!!
The movie folks have long quietly mocked the music industry's attempt to protect their copyrights by suing fans. To them, the strategy--abandoned by the recording sector over a year ago--was a fantastic public relations flub that the film industry largely avoided.
There was a guy who lived in Kentwood, Michigan, about 10 minutes from me, who was in the news because he got busted for sharing a bunch of movies on torrents or P2P and was being sued for literally millions of $$$!!
LOL!!!
So i guess that statement is full of $h!t!!
LOL!!
That's why you don't use P2P or torrent dump sites -
I think this quote from Wikipedia sums it up about the Oscars:
The Oscars, the popular name for the Academy Awards, is voted upon by the over 6000 members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. -
People still use P2P?
Not that i condone it, but for a measly $1 per movie (or free if it's at the library), a person can safely pirate a movie without the risk of this crap. If they're going to rip off anyway, they might as well do it without having the whole movie industry and courts involved.
Or they could rent it, watch it once, pine over the lost time, and return it. No use in going bankrupt or to jail over a crappy movie (or even a good one). -
Wouldn't this mean that someone involved with The Hurt Locker had to physically create a torrent to share and track somehow?
-
they currently have 50,000 requests in to isp companies for the names and addresses of p2p downloaders in the u.s. for a small start with many more to come. so yes there must be a large base of users.
looks to me like they had computers actively in the swarm sharing the movies in question and logging the ip of every request to download a part.
People still use P2P?--

This was a big part of why I don't use BT any more. I went to Giganews and never looked back.

How do you know you won't like it? I've watched and it's a damn good movie...very intense and suspenseful. I'd say it's worthy of its oscar accolades.
The problem why it only grossed 16 million was because of the distribution in the theaters or marketing. There was barely any advertising for the film. This movie played nowhere near any movie theater where I live....and IMDB says it peaked at some 500 theater locations? A lot of movies get at least over 2000 plus theaters when first released. And I first heard about this movie last year and would've definitely gone to the theater to watch it as I enjoy the director's work.
And by the time it gained steam for the oscars it was already released on DVD. So if anyone should be sued it should be their marketing/distribution department as they were pathetic in advertising it. -
Before the Internet and even before Bulletin Boards, bundles of 5.5 inch floppy disks containing umpteen video games were mailed around the world from friend to friend.
The friends of the friends made copies and continued the chain.
That's how C64, Ti-99, Atari users distributed software and that's how it will be done again for video (if no new undetectable method surfaces).
Hollywood will continue to weep bitter tears to no avail. -
Yes, that's why the post office should open every packet and examine the contents. If they find any copyrighted material they should assume the sender and recipient are not authorized to distribute it and destroy it. Then they should notify the rights holders so legal action can be taken.
Since you don't even need use the postal system, every person should be searched every time they are in public. Then the owners of the streets and sidewalks should be sued for facilitating copyright infringement.
And don't forget, everything anyone creates is now copyrighted by default. So no art or information created after 1923 can be transmitted anywhere, anytime.
Don't even think about encryption to hide your nefarious activities. You're obviously a terrorist if you do that and an even worse fate awaits you.Last edited by jagabo; 30th May 2010 at 07:20.

"Producers of Oscar-winning film "The Hurt Locker" have made good on a promise to file copyright lawsuits against people who have illegally downloaded the movie via file-sharing networks."
Yet, another Joke!
Folks, Have you heard of ...
Steven Spielberg for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull which has grossed $317 million domestically, and over $786 million worldwide.
-or-
James Cameron for Avatar which became the first movie to ever earn more than $2 billion worldwide.
Are following same foot-steps as "The Hurt Locker" producers?
May be not, coz they know their films definitely gonna make an excellent show while in theater.
By the way, last question...
Are "The Hurt" people successful to "Lock" the John and Jane Does, yet???
I really laugh at our sole dependency on Media News and considering Media News as a fact, or bare naked truth.
Any way thanks for sharing nice jokes or humors on Video Help with interesting discussions.

I didn't miss those posts. But when you said you didn't see it that's when I responded on how you know you won't like it having never watched it? You respond some 10 days later AFTER watching the movie and re-quoting people.
If you didn't like it after watching it well then ok. People have different tastes on movies. But I've learned a long time ago not to pre-judge a movie before ever seeing it....and have watched a lot of hidden gems in the process.
