Problems with media in Lite-on 5005

I dont know if anyone have problems with the formation on the lite-on 5005 , because mine cant formate DVD - R , i even changed the DVD`s brand from Memorex , Fuji etc . the only ones that i can format is the + , i should say also that my unit have the hack on .
Did anyone encountered also this problem ? thaks

Mine burns any brand of media DVD+R, DVD-R.

You should only use R+ DVDs and preferably top brands.

I had also tried R- DVDs (Verbatim, Sony) with my LiteOn 5005, which has the firmware update, and ended up throwing them away since they refused to play properly in different players (constant freezing, heavy pixelation, etc...).
Even when burning discs on my Pioneer 640, or when making PC backups of commercial DVDs, I only use Verbatim R+ now since they play noticeably smoother than R- types on all other DVD players.
Regardless, there is a problem with the way the LiteOn 5005 burns DVDs in that neither R- nor R+ discs will play properly on ALL DVD players, no matter what brand of DVDs used.
In addition, not a single one of the PC *R-* copies I have made of R+ or R- DVDs previously burned on the LiteOn 5005 will play on ANY DVD player tried so far.

Most people here will likely suggest the use of DVD R- for most brands of DVD recorders other than the LiteOn and its clones, but I have personally experienced the best compatibility all around when sticking with the R+ / R+DL format, and specifically the Verbatim brand.

I have no problems independant of media on any players other than old SONYs and they won't accept my burned disks on any media.

I'm currently using el cheapo 4x DVD-R no name media (princo mediaID) 10 cents each. Rather than using 16x DVD+R media which costs me a bit more.

Perhaps which drive Lite-on used in a given recorder and the firmware revs (I'm running up to date unhacked firmware) matter.

I have two 5005 and other Liteon/ilo units. I use primarily Verbatim +/-R and +RW disks.
I have not had a problem with a unit recognizing a disk but others have. I had problems with burning disks and playing in other players, by the way +RW disks Are Not Finalized and I know of no recorder that will do so
I feel that the problem is in the DVD unit itself Attempts at a firmware change have not corrected the issue. I had tried to correct this and other problems but gave it up

All my LiteOn/ilo units have replaced drives [PC units] and have been working fine with any disk in any player that will accept a +/-R or +/-RW. Much has been said about the Liteon units and there performance. I would not get rid of my units and I have six, three with HDD

Now this is my personal opinion. Liteon is supplying little or no support for these units and their latest models cannot be hacked. Thee is a long story on this issue of the hack

If you value the hack and it would seem you do
REPLACE THE DVD DRIVES

The Liteon drives from 1693s and earlier can be used and retain all functions

Hi everyone thanks for all the info everybody posted , i sincerely i used before -/+ disc and worked everything fine , but i bought from a cheap brand 200 dvd`s and now they are comming to a end and i bought new ones from Fuji - and it said invalid disc i put a + from the rest of the 200 and worked fine . Today i bought a couple of + and i`m gonna try tonight . About the ones who are not capable of seeing +/- in some players , about that i can say that i dont have any problem what so ever i see all my movies in all the dvd`s that i have even in my car or my son`s portable , i can also had that the sound and image its 5 stars compared with the few ones that i burned on my pc with Clone DVD that was kinda of disappointing . Tomorrow i will post if the new ones + that i bought from staples brand will worked .

My LITEON units work fine with SONY DVD+R, MCC DVD+R, MCC DVD-R, PVC DVD-RW and INFODISCA1 DVD+RW

In addition to the recommendations by lordsmurf, I have had no problems using Office Depot 4x DVD+RW or -RW media (mfr by Ritek). OD has them on sale regularly, for $7.99/25 pk. They work equally well in my 5005 units with 098 and 101 FW.

hi everyone , after my problems with the DVD`s - i trieded the plus from Staples , Memorex and Sony and everything worked fine , just let me say something i never had problems with the RW ones or cd`s just the DVD - , so , or is my unit or the hack but has long i can still burn my movies i`m ok i recorded , Borat , shut up and sing and the nigth listener with the 3 different brands and everything works perfectly i even went to my car to tried them and worked fine . my only disappointment its my DAYTEK that was made after August 2004 i dident fond yet a hack for that model and all the ones that i tried the unit reads them all has files .
