I want to report a bug of 'k-lite mega codec pack 6.30'.

when converted to avi rmvb by VirtualDubMod, the videos are getting slow motion but only in this version of 'k-lite', I installed version 5.83, and the videos are perfect, does anyone know what's going on?

ps: I installed the latest version of real alternative.

    thx;]

Why report it here ? We have nothing to do with it, and most people here would recommend that you never install a codec pack to begin with.

Therein lies one of my main complaints.
The crap pack is released by phantoms with no home, no official site, etc.
So when the pack is all fubar, which has happened MANY times in the past, there's nobody to gripe at.

It all goes back to being created with warez in mind. And it used the same distribution system.

This is why forums have always been where people cry about k-lite, and not a k-lite site of some kind.

This by itself should be a red flag, a warning, as to why you should never install this junk on your computer.

Apparently, Mr. clsid, who is the informal "project manager" to the ffdshow development team, is one of the creators/maintainers of the whole K-Lite thing.

Look, I know you hate K-Lite, but don't lie about it.

    K-Lite site: http://www.codecguide.com/about_kl.htm
    which links to
    faq: http://www.codecguide.com/faq.htm
    forum: http://codecs.freeforums.org/

And the latter would be a better place to ask than here, as the resident trolls turn any discussion on the subject into abuse of anyone who uses it.

It's a rare free software that does have any support worth the name. Many of the very useful tools recommended here have no current home page at all and no revisions for years. K-Lite is updated about once a month and has been for a decade.

CodecGuide does not explicitly claim ownership of the software, it just links to it and vaguely references it in the sparse articles. The FAQ on that site is generic about codecs, not specific to K-lite. The forums are generic and not specific to K-lite. No more than videohelp.com is. The downloads are all on free "software downloads" sites (Betanews, Russian sites, etc)

Again, it's phantom software with no obvious owner. There's no way to contact the developers, no bug report tool. Nothing. Not a single thing. Nada. New versions just magically appear. (Often full of problems that are known to screw up computers.)

You cannot compare active software with abandonware. Obviously abandoned software has no homepage. That should be common sense. You would think active software would have at least one page to say "here we are, we made K-lite, download it, report bugs here".

If clsid is a dev, he didn't act like it here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=137625. His input was, at best, passive defense of it, with admission of it borking computers. (Maybe a good reason not to claim it?) Granted, that's two years old, but K-lite is older. Nor does Google pull anything more recent than 2008 for the terms clsid + k-lite.

Or maybe it has something to do with this: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t43051.html%5B/t140252.html.
Notice this quote: "it distributes beta and alpha versions of copyrighted material which were prohibited for free distribution." That can't be good.

To me ... to most people ... this is a big red flag.
It's basic social math: No owner + bad reputation = stay the hell away.

For instance, K-Lite installs a link to http://www.codecguide.com/ as a "help" link.

    Noticed your ffdshow review comment:

It seems *more* bugs have been "invented" since the "DXVA support" was added some hundreds of version ago. Probably things will keep getting worse and worse... until the ffdshow developers decide to replace their informal "manager" (clsid) with someone less stubborn and less narrow-minded.

So if you're correct about clsid being related to K-lite, and your ffdshow comments are accurate, then he's apparently known for screwing up something else, too? Does anybody else see a trend here?

    Interesting.

    @ lordsmurf:

You're right, I'm not a big fan of clsid. Even though he has created a great DS tweak tool for Windows 7, he's not been so great at managing where the latest builds of ffdshow are going to. Besides, since "I don't know when" , the installers of the K-Lite Codec Packs cannot be decompressed with UniExtract, because they're password-protected now.
