Hi Guys,
I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good DVD player with 5.1 channel output?
I used to have a Sony DAVS880, but that no longer works. I want to keep the speaker setup that I have, and just buy a new DVD Player but the DVD player must have the ability to output 5.1 in the form of raw speaker cables (i.e. Stripped wires connect directly to the back of the DVD player).
I would prefer to buy another Sony as the rest of my equipment is Sony.
I live in Australia, so the DVD player must be available locally.
Thanks Guys!

that would be a dvd player built into a receiver ... not just a dvd player
panasonic makes a pretty good theater in box -- most of these also come with the speakers though ...."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
I have the previous Version without the DIVX Support. I have had it for over a year with no issues. Use it in the Bedroom and use it to watch 4 or 5 dvd's a week...

Misread the Part about the AMP....Thanks BJ_M...Best bet might be a new HT system...

Thanks for your help guys.
I should make myself a bit clearer - yes, I'm after a DVD player with built in Amp.
I don't really want to buy a whole new system, as it would seem like a waste seeming I've already got a set of good quality speakers that come with stands and look great.
I would prefer to purchase just a new DVD player instead of a whole system.
Any ideas guys?
Thanks. -
if there is a digital input on your existing system - you could just buy any dvd player instead ...

Was it the entire amp/player that went on your Sony? If not, does it have any inputs on the back? Maybe you can just buy a cheap player and run it thru your amp. Better than having to buy a whole system.

I personally did not hear about any "DVD players" on the current market that has just its own built-in receiver with speakers output. Maybe some were on the market before but nowadays I did not see any but only Home Theater in box (HTIB system) units. If you want such type then I would recommend to look at JVC TH-C50 or 60.

Thanks for your help guys.
Based on what you're saying, I think I have 3 options:
1 - Buy a whole new HTIB system.
2 - Buy a cheap DVD player and connect it to my non-working DVD player's inputs.
3 - Buy a new DVD player and separate Amp and then connect them to my speakers.
I think I'll go with option #2, as this is just an everyday unit for my daughter to watch her movies on.
Thanks again guys - you've been invaluable!
