  1. Hi!

I burned some DVD from VHS to DVD recorder. But when I try to see the DVD’s to another DVD players, i can not see them. The manual of my DVD player tell us that i have to finalize the disk. OK. I tried to do that, but when i try that, i get i message telling my that finalizing is not possible. Why?

Do you know any software that can perform the finalizing of the DVD in my PC? Thanks a lot.

You wouldn't happen to be using RW media. Some DVRs will not finalize RW. Will your PC read the disks.

  4. My DVD recorder is SONAR.
I am using DVD+R media, and my PC can not read DVD burned from my DVD recorder.

You have not mentioned the mode you choose to record. Maybe you are recording in VR mode when you should be recording in Video Mode. Perhaps you should try recording to DVD+RW in Video Mode and take it to your computer and use DVD Shrink to edit, encode and shrink, then use DVD Decrypter to burn.

What I did was simply following the manual how to record from VHS to DVD. There is not any other explanation. I do not no what is VR and Video Mode.

Any way i pressed the finalize button from remote control, and after that i got a note from DVD player that finalizing is not possible.

  7. Does this can be caused by the brand of DVD+R media?

Have you tried to finalize the disc in another Sonar or Polaroid recorder? I sometimes run into this problem with Liteon recorders. I have also had my Liteon 5001 say the disc can't be finalized, then after turning it off and then back on again and trying again, having it finalize the disc. Try it a couple times. Maybe it will correct itself....

Yes I did it. But no result. Always, after pressing the finalizing button, I saw a message: The disc can not be finalized
I do not understand the reason!

The only reason I can think of why a disc can not be finalized is if it is a DVD+RW rather than a DVD+R

No. By the manual, the DVD recorder works with DVD+RW and DVD+R. I tried to different brands, Maxell and Memorex. The same result, no finalize.

DVD+RW's don't require finalizing, that's not the way they work. If you re using a DVD+RW it cannot be finalized.

I did not use DVD+RW. I used only DVD+R, different brands, and i could not finalize them.

Have you tried to finalize the disc in another Sonar deck? Take the disc to the store where you bought the recorder from and see if one of the display decks will finalize it. Are all the +R discs you are using failing to finalize? If so, exchange the deck for another one. Sounds like the burner may be bad.....

I read the manual of Sonar DVd recorder. There is no explanation of VR or Video Mode.

No I did not try that yet. I will go te the store and will try it. Thanks for this helpful idea
The only thing that makes me confuse is, that burner will burn very well the disc. But if I try to the finalize, there is the problem. So, the burner is the problem?

  18. I tried a DVD+RW SONY, and the DVD can be played in any DVD player, without finalizing. That tells me something. The problem consists in DVD+ R media

I have THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM on a Polaroid. The machine is simply a huge piece of crap, operationally speaking. If you have access to a LiteOn DVD recorder, finalize in that. I use my LiteOn 5104 to finalize the Polaroid DVDs, since the Polaroid cannot see it's own discs. How sad is that?

In that case take/send it back. Demand a refund. Buy something else instead. If it's that bad now, imagine what it'll be like after a couple of years.

  24. The Sonar and the Polaroid I believe are made by the same factory, but I have not tested a Sonar. The Polaroid records in dvd+vr mode only with mpeg1, layer 2 audio.

Is this a problem only with dvd+r? I tested the Polaroid last year but did not have any dvd+r's at the time. I had no problem finalizing a dvd-r of a TV broadcast which I still have.

    Thanks all for your help.

My piont is: Do all DVD recorders have the same problem with finalizing the DVD-s burned in the same DVD recorder machine or thois problem is evident only in SONAR DVD recorders? By the way, SONAR can burn only DVD + family

If you suggest some other DVD recorder which can easily finalize te DVD-s, tell me please. Because not finalizing the proper DVDs is a big trouble.

    Thanks

  26. I have tested many of the recorders on this thread but never had a problem finalizing on any of them. As I mentioned, I did not have any dvd+r at the time I tested the Polaroid so if that is a problem I am not aware of it. It finalized dvd-r just fine.

P.S. You may want to hurry if you want to return the Sonar. It has disappeared from the Best Buy Canada web site so it may be discontinued.

I get DVDs from England. Sometime they won't play on the DVD player as they haven't been finalized..
If I copy the DVD to a blank DVD on the computer the copy works fine.

How exactly do you copy them as a friend tried that and said it didn't work?
