    Hi

Ive recently downloaded a 2.5 GIG Music Video that has been recorded in HD Format with the following settings: -

    Image
    Width 1280 pixels
    Height 720 pixels

    Duration 00.55.36
    Bit Rate 384kbps
    Audio Format AC-3 ACM Codec

    Video
    Frame Rate 23 Frames/second
    Video Sample Size 12 bit
    Video Compression Xvid

Now i usually for all my AVI, WMV conversion to DVD use WinAVi which i think is a great bit of kit and have had great results when transferring to DVD. Unfortunately i have tried converting this through WINAVI and as soon as it attempts to begin the software crashes

Now i then looked into XVID and there was an XVID converter which was available to try, i downloaded and when i attempted to convert it told me i didnt have the correct AC3 filter installed on my PC once i had located and installed that the XVID converter (which i was simply using to test the file) began to work - i then thought do i really need to xvid to convert it? what would the output file be? and now ive installed the AC3 filter would WinAvi also do the same and allow me to convert so i could put this music file onto a DVD - i stopped the Xvid converter (it was a trial so no doubt it would complete then have "Xvid Trial" or something across the screen), i then went back to Winavi and the same thing happened. (

now ive got this music video and 2 other film that do this in win avi so thought it was about time i asked why this keeps happening )

    the other filmes are: -

    Image
    Width 520 pixels
    Height 274 pixels

    Duration 01.38.36
    Bit Rate 160kbps
    Audio Format AC-3 ACM Codec

    Video
    Frame Rate 25 Frames/second
    Data Rate 120 kbps
    Video Sample Size 12 bit
    Video Compression Xvid

    AND

    Image
    Width 480 pixels
    Height 336 pixels

    Duration 01.28.55
    Bit Rate 192kbps
    Audio Format AC-3 ACM Codec

    Video
    Frame Rate 25 Frames/second
    Data Rate 134kbps
    Video Sample Size 12 bit
    Video Compression Xvid

Now i dont know if this is a codec issue seeing as there all copied using the AC-3 ACM Codec, a recording issue, a HD issue etc but if you could shed come light on what i have to do to get this converted and onto DVD that would be greatly appreciated

    I await your swift response
    Regards
    Richard

You could try a different tool such as Tmpgenc or Convertx2DVD.

I haven't used WinAVI, so I can't comment on how or if it can be "fixed".

I dabbled with WinAVI a long time ago, and found it to be low quality, unstable and all around crap. Everything I have seen posted here has validated that initial impression of it.

If you want to persist in using it, I suggest you raise your problems with WinAVI support. Chances are they will refer you back here, because frankly their support staff are about as good as their product.

Once you are sick of getting nowhere with them, either give ConvertXtoDVD a try, or learn how to encode and author manually. You will be surprised at how much better your results will be.
