  1. Hi,

I have some training vids that were encoded for me using Xvid and now I need to convert them to MPG2 for use on a DVD. The problem is when I encode them, with TMPGenc, the resulting MPG videos are upside down. I have to use the absolute highest quality settings in TMPGenc and am not sure where to even begin troubleshooting this.

I have the latest XVid and Divx codecs installed, XVid is registered as the default codec for these and otherwise I use Jockersots Codec Installer/Checker to make sure I have whatever codecs I need.

Any hints on what the issue is would be greatly appreciated!

I'd try a different program. DVD Flick is worth a look- freeware and gives excellent, quick results:

I'd also suggest WinAVI, but that isn't freeware

  3. Ok, I will try those.

I did run CodecInstall and it said the video codec was corrupt so I reinstalled XVid. Unfortunately it had no effect.

    Thank,

dvdflick is a step back from tmpg.

winavi is a step back into the dark ages.

codec packs are first on the blame list when upside down video turns up.
    got any installed?

You can set the XviD codec (Configure decoder) to flip the video. This may be checked (or may have to be checked).

Flip video was not checked and checking it did nothing.

ffdshow may be doing your XviD decoding. I'd imagine there's a "flip" option for that too? Yes, it is - Configure Decoder.

You can drag your file into graphedit to see what is decoding.

    Tmpg plus?
Don't understand why people still use this...
Common suggestion for any trouble is to move directshow plug in to highest priority in enviromental settings

might want to try removing all xvid, ffd and divx, then adding xvid only first and so on.

I tried removing all 3 codecs and installing them one at a time with no luck.

What do you suggest I use in place of TMPGenc?

    Thanks,

I actualy have a slightly older version of CCE but it produces both an MPV and a WAV file and I am not sure what to use to mux those. TMPGEnc produces an MPG file with no audio when I try it's MPEG tools. Any ideas on this route?

And graphedit to see decoding filters?

and changing direcshow priority in tmpgenc?

    For starters Tmpg Xpress.

I like and suggest the use of HC.
i've had video and audio processing separate for a long time now so I use it on it's own, typing out the avisynth scripts i need.
but you could try it with a number of frontends.

Yep, did those as well. Something is very borked on my system. After removing everythng and resintalling FFDshow graphedit shows the file being filtered through AVISplitter then FFDShow but still it comes out upside down.

What do I need to mux the MPV & WAV files from CCE? That is quick and very good quality.

    Thanks,

You add the mpv and wav when you author the dvd. I don't think it possible to put mpv and wav in a basic mpg file.

Try convertxtodvd for this. It will do what you want at the same quality if not better and faster then TMPGenc in my opinion. It's way faster and easier to use. I would also remove the divx codec since there is really no need for it if you have the xvid codec. it handles divx fine.

Convertxtodvd is a quick and dirty tool, good if your in a hurry or for watch once files but for getting the best quality it absolutely ******* sucks, saying it is better than tmpgenc is like saying vcd is better than dvd or a black & white tv is better than a colour one.

convertX is very good for a 'one step' solution

NOT everybody wants to jump thru multiple HOOPs to convert something that is not going to be a permanent ENJOYABLE archive

my daughters 'baby videos' need the best work i can do

a throw away copy of a training vid on 'how to suck up to the boss' does not not need that kind of time an atention

everybody has different needs and different standards
