Purchased yesterday at Costco in Santa Rosa, CA for $39.99

100 TDK -DVD-R 16X Print On White Disk 4.7 GB
    Media Code: TTH02 (Nero InfoTool)
Sticker on top says: Made in India (in English, Spanish and French)
UPC: 2035648644 Other Number on Label: 915589

These do not have "TDK" and "DVD-R" printed in white on the inner hub as the ones I've been buying at the same place with the same media code. The paper insert on top of the stack has always said "Made in Taiwan". No "Made in" designation on insert for this batch. "Made in India" is on a sticky label placed on top of case.

Not sure if I should post or just start a new entry in Media DB.

Haven't burnt any yet. I thought I'd post first. Will test and post again.

Has anyone else used these? Any comments?

I'd just file them in under the normal TDK 16x DVD-R TTH02 entry in the DB, since they should be using the same dye. The Taiwan discs are made by CMC Magnetics, the India discs by Moser Baer.

"Which factory is the DVD made in?" is one of the most important criteria for judging the quality of the disk.

In the past, Moser Baer has not always been associated with top quality media.

I posted because I don't think they are the same.

They aren't different enough to be filed separately in the Media DB. They're made using the same TDK equipment (note the stamper numbers in the hub area on the dye side of the sisc). Verbatim media of the same media code but made at different areas is listed together, so why should TDK be any different?

Hi, I also bought these, actually i have another TDK DVD-R Spindle that I bought months ago in Cotsco it has the same code but it had DVD-R and TDK brand on the hub. I also would like to know if the "made in india" ones are good media or if the Taiwan ones are better? thanks

    hi

I brought these TDK without the TDk name and dvd+ printed on the hub and I am finding out that these don't work in all dvd player. I just brought an LG DN191H and a Toshiba DVD 3990. Both of these dvd player with play all of my old TDK that have the tdk dvd+ printed on them. The new batch of tdk I just got from costco don't have the name or dvd type printed on them. So maybe these one made in India isn't that great.

I test out a few other brands and it work ok. Now I just need to figure what Iam going to do with the other 150 dvd disks with no name printed on them.

Digital Faq ... getting bad reviews

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/365260

Don't let yourself get misleaded by this digitalfaq. This digitalfaq has been prepared and edited by other people and we all know that people do have different preferences and results. But about TDK,most members (if i'm right) would tell you that they're far from the best ones. As you can see, none can understand how TDK can be listed among the top 5. Proof that you can read digitalFAQ but be careful about what you read, there may be some points where views and facts may differ from others. Verbatim medias are much much better than TDK medias. Verbatim(MCC) can even be considered among the top notch medias on the market next to Taiyo Yuden (which remains the number one).

I can even say that verbatim (made in India) is even much better than the TDK. However, TDK in the past used to be good media when it was made by Taiyo Yuden but then once changed manufacturer, the quality went down. But only Verbatim, even changes manufacturer, remain very good medias (only one exception is the CMC coded ones, which i think is no more available and is back to MCC).

The problems always comes back to burner and firmwares. Some burners are simply poor performers.

For example, those "beloved" BenQ drives scan well (all that scanning is mostly useless anyway, in the hands of amateurs), but that still doesn't change the fact that they burn pretty awful when compared to a Pioneer, NEC, LG or LiteOn drives. The also have one of the more aggravating firmware updates, where it can introduce more errors than fixes.

Most folks fail to read the first line of the digitalFAQ blank media rankings page, where it says to visit the full guide. Had they done that, they would have come across this page, where such things are explained in depth (or at least as in-depth as can be done, when trying to explain techno-babble in plain English, and in a fairly short guide).

In general, on most drives with proper updates, TDK is an excellent media choice. It may not be as good as MCC or TY, for example, but it's definitely superior to those that are ranked under it (like RITEK and CMC). It is also easily seen by most drives, and plays well.
