The new packaged Verbatim -R 16X 50 pc. spools are definitely "Made In India". Just checked the packaging on the ones at The Source (Radio Shack). +R are still the old packaging "Made In Taiwan" ones.

Bad news. I keep checking my packs, and so far it all comes up Taiwan, thankfully.

  3. A few months back a local BestBuy had MII Verbatim on its shelves and I bought a 50 pack to experiment with. I have not personally seen any in my area since. I noticed this weekend that BestBuy and even Sam's Club had Verbatim on their shelves in the newer style packaging. All the newer packages I examined were Made in Taiwan and if the old method of the font type on the cakebox still works they were CMC made MCC. The majority of stock however was still in the old packaging and was all MIT.

For whatever it's worth, all of the DVD+R DL purchases that I have made (by the way, I only mail order and I buy from a variety of sources) have all been made in India. They seem OK - so far.

  5. Don΄t know what`s the deal with the MII Verbatims, so far I`ve had no problems at all, burned over 100 now and no troubles with playability or with reading when I have to burn from those DVDs

It's good to hear good reports on this. Initials media reports were not great (not bad, but not great).

    - Since when the MII Verbatims arrived?, here I just began to get them from my supplier, maybe in June or so (before that only MIT), maybe that`s why the results are great so far, they changed something perhaps from the first batches that had those bad reports?, as I see in internet thet`ve been around since 2005 or so.

Can you guys name one decent brand of media produced in India? I thought not. It's far too early to call the shots on the MII Verbatim. It's cheaper up here(Canada) overall than the made in Taiwan Verbatims. Untill more data is available I'm going to stick with the tried and true. I can't risk bad discs anymore on archival data.

MBIL is quite capable of making quality media. I forget their 8x +R MID, but quite a few folks over at CDFreaks got good results with them sold under the TDK brand. The Made in India Verbatim media is only new to North America; it's been around in Europe for years and is still considered quality media. It is Mitsubishi tech after all.

I have a difficult time believing that the Indian discs are made with the same quality control standards as the discs produced at Mitsubishi Taiwan operation. Check out JohnnyBob's comments in the thread below. It's what I've been hearing on more than one forum. No way are these discs the same.

The ones made in Taiwan aren't really made by Mitsubishi either you know; Mitsubishi's one and only optical disc manufacturing plant is in Singapore. The Taiwanese discs are manufactured by CMC Magnetics and Prodisc Technologies under the same ODM arrangement as Moser Baer in India. As for JohnnyBob's comments, he was referring to double layer media which is much more difficult to manufacture than single layer. While the verdict is still out on the MBIL MCC DL media, people in Europe have been using the single layer media for years and it's been fine for them, as has that I've used myself here in the US.

I have seen several similar threads and I've yet to see anyone in any thread mention a place in the USA or Canada that still has MIT Verbatim DL media for sale. Like it or not, I think we don't have any choice but to use the Indian made ones.

There never was any MIT Verbatim DL, it was all made in Singapore before. You can still find it sold as the 8x certified (up to 10x) Verbatim DL media in the orange packaging, and there is still some of the old 2.4x media left that is Singapore-made.
