Maybe try booting into Safe Mode, then using System Restore ?

How far exactly does it get into the boot before it stops ?

Does it get to a point and then reboot endlessly ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

So it gets through the BIOS tests ?

Does it display the Windows XP logo ?

Where exactly does it hang ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

    The Go Back screen ????

To be honest, I'm findly it extremely difficult to ascertain anything of certainty because you're being wayyyyy too vague. Don't forget that we cannot see your screen from here - you are our eyes and ears and you need to describe in excruitiatingly painful detail, everything that it displayed on your screen from the moment you press the power button to the moment it hangs.

    Maybe these will help:

    If in doubt, Google it.

I worked on a computer that had that program installed. It apparently rewrote the boot sector of the hard drive. It appears to be the first thing to boot even before the OS. If it's messed up, it could be a real pain to fix.

Even when I formated the hard drive, it was still there and wouldn't let me reinstall windows.

Anyway, I did a Google search for 'remove norton go back' and found this one for removal: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/goback.nsf/docid/2003050713255158?OpenDocument&lg...eg=hho&src=hot

There are other hits there with that same search that might be of more help.

I had enough of it that I never wanted to see it again. The XP restore is a much better choice if you have system problems, IMO.
