I have installed the Norton 360 program from Tiscali and am wondering
whether I need to keep the Spybot program which I used with the previous
basic antivirus program.

SpyBot should get along fine with most any antivirus program. You could disable TeaTimer if there is any conflict, if you use it. I would recommend running SpyBot itself at least a couple of times a month. I also use SpyWare Blaster and it doesn't seem to conflict with my other anti-malware programs either. They all seem to look for different things in different places and all of the help to protect you. You could add Comodo Firewall for another level of protection. It's a bit invasive at first, but has stopped a lot of problems. I also use Avast for a anti-virus program. All these programs are freeware.
I would try using all the programs. They all do different things in different ways. And with SpyBot and SpyWare Blaster, you need to keep them updated regularly, or they aren't much use. -
I know a lot of people recommend Spybot, as the were one of firsts on the scene. I however would recommend MalwareBytes or SuperAntiSpyware now a days.
I also would recommend having one of these installed along side you antivirus suite -
You can certainly also have more than one anti-spyware program installed - some choose to do this because they believe that one program catches things the other doesn't, and together, they'll catch everything.
Of course, you shouldn't have the real-time scan/prevention options on all those programs active at the same time, though.
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -
i would never allow anything from norton on any of my computers.
zonealarm firewall, avira anti virus and malwarebytes & spybot
all free and none of them wrap themself around your registry like norton does. -
I wouldn't use Comodo alongside Norton 360 as 360 already has a firewall built in. If you're going to use Spybot S&D then I'd say it was more important to use the Immunisation feature rather than the scanning feature. I'd also recommend MalwareBytes for weekly/daily scans.
