  1. Starting with a VOB file containing multiple audio tracks, I used VOB2MPG to convert it. The wrong language ends up in the resulting MPG file. Is there a way to correct this? Or is there a VOB to MPG conversion tool that gives easy control over this?

I don't think it does. It just converts them all, AFAIK. You could use DVD Decrypter. I believe it gives you a way to select the audio track. DVD Shrink does also, I believe. I haven't tried either for that specific purpose, though. You might check the guides for those programs.

  3. I opened the MPG file with VirtualDubMod, and it gave me a choice of two audio streams. So VOB2MPG apparently preserves all audio streams. I know that DVD Shrink gives me a choice of streams, and it's also smart about identifying them with a language. However, DVD Shrink does not give me the option of preserving the original compression. It will only let me change the compression, or remove it entirely, when I really don't want any change at all. And since I also want one large MPG file, VOB2MPG is the right tool for this.

I just might have to find a way to identify and remove unwanted audio streams from the MPG file after the VOB2MPG processing.
