Is there some device that I connect to my PC so that when I switch between headphones and the speakers that I don't have to crawl under the desk to make it happen? I'd also like a volume control for whatever source is active.

You can buy the speaker/headphone switch in most PC peripheral shops. Plantronics makes one for about $15, and I've see them at Circuit City and CompUSA.

Some PC cases have a front audio output, which disables the one in the back when you use the one in the front.

The simplest would be to extend the audio output from the computer to a switch and use that to chose between the two output choices. computer audio out and headphones. You may have to use some adapter cables. The audio output from a computer is generally a 1/8 inch/3.5 mm stereo phone plug. Some switches use a RCA phono plug for each channel. It depends on what switch you can find. You should find adapters from 1/8 inch stereo phone to stereo RCA phono as they are fairly common and can be purchased at many audio stores. The switch can also be purchased there.

If you output the audio from the computer to a amplifier, there may be other options available.

I may have inadvertenly answered my own question. Two weeks I bought a much better pair of speakers than I'm currently using. I just discovered, as the post above suggests, I can plug a headset into one speaker, and the sound goes off on the speaker. This might work, but I'm open to other suggestions. Isn't what I'm asking for something akin to a mixer device?
