    Hi!
New to Macs, so go easy on me...
I have some .avi movies on my computer, but some play with no sound... Most of them works fine, but some don't! What should I do? No way to work this around?

    Thanks in advance.

Quicktime may need to have additional components installed before you can play videos encoded with certain codecs. You may need to install one of the AC3 components for audio (sorry, I don't have a link handy, but MacUpdate and VersionTracker are good places to look (for any freeware/shareware Mac software, at that), or DivX/XVid for MP3 audio.

If you have VLC or mplayer installed, you can use them to get more information on the codecs the AVI uses... of course, you can also use them to play the AVI file without worrying about the Quicktime components, as VLC and mplayer use their own codecs and not the Quicktime architecture.

    There's a search button for a reason.
