  1. Hello all,

I am trying out Sonic Foundry's Vegas Video 3 and and
am extremely impressed with the functionality and
interface so far. Only problem is that it renders .avi
files really sloooooowwwwwly even when I use the
avi compression built into my Broadway Pro card.
I used to use Ulead Media Studio Pro 5.2 and that
would render very quickly. Any tips on how to optimize
the rendering speed of Vegas Video?

    Thanks,

  2. Hi VCDDude,

I would say the answer to this question depends on a) your source media and b) what are your .avi render settings. If you are rendering source data that is compressed (such as mpeg, .qt, .wmv) then the render time will take longer. Also, if you are going NTSC or PAL DV .avi it will take a bit longer because it is encoding it as compressed data again. What are your PC specs?

  3. PC specs are 600MHz PIII, plenty of disc (about 50GB)
and a Broadway Pro vid card. The Broadway Pro makes an
AVI that consists of MPEG1 I-frames. VV3 renders quickly
to an uncompressed AVI, but slowly to the BWay Pro format.
Weird thing is that Ulead Media Studio Pro (MSP)renders to
BWay Pro MPEG-AVI very quickly. I think that MSP is also
quicker because it does not re-render unchanged parts
of the video. VV3 appears to re-render the whole video
period. I render to VCD specs : 352x240, 29.97 fps,
    44.1KHz audio.

    Thanks!

  4. Oops, also, the source video has the same VCD spec.
