Does Video Studio have any kind of a vido feature that allows you to fade in at the begining and also fade out at the ending?

I have a 30-second video file that is nothing more than a short documentary on the rest of the video. I would like the video to fade in from a black screen for a brief moment and then fade out to a black screen at the last few moments of the documentary.

  2. Create a short (1 second?) black video and crossfade to it.

I understan that but I need to also fade in and out of the actual video so the effects will be that on fade in you see black gradually fading into the text until the text is at full focus and do the opposite same at the end of the clip. What I don't know is where/how in VS you get the option to crossfade as you state it. Is it a video filter? If so, I have been unable to find it in the video filters.

  4. I have a very old version of Ulead Video Studio, version 6, so things may be different now.

To perform a fade-in, add a black clip (the length of the fade) to the overlay track at the start of the video. Then change the overlay's "motion type" to "static with fade-out". Do the same at the end, but use motion type "static fade in".

Will that method still cause the video portion to fade-in fade-out?

    Code:
    +-----+------+------+------+------+------+------+------+------+
    | | | | | | | | | |
    +-----+------+------+------+------+------+------+------+------+
        1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
    1) Black start clip
    2-8 ) Documentary
    9) Black end clip

I want it to start fading in at 1, 2 and 3 and start fading out at scene 7, 8, and 9

The appearance should be that as it fades in the text in the documentary are faint and gradually get sharper and sharper until it reaches scene 4 which is full focus and do same fading out.

OK, thanks all. Now I just need to give it a try as soon as I get through burning the current project.

  10. For anyone else reading this thread, did you use my suggestion of a black overlay, or did you find a fade in/out function as pepegot1 suggested?

I used the one that you select the Effects Tab and then drag the fade to black filter onto the little square between the black clip and the video clip.

I will also give your method a try.

  13. Fade to black is easier. Version 6 didn't have it so I had to revert to the overlay method.
