  1. if I select the full processing mode in vdubmod under stream list and then just select the ac3 codec and not select a compression will this give me the 5.1 ac3 sound as there is in the demuxed ac3 file from dgindex. I cant select a compression in the ac3 codec because vdubmod doesn't like me to when I try to do some hd upconverting from dvd with 5.1 ac3

I'm not sure what you are trying to do here. If you want to extract the AC3 audio, keep it in Direct Stream Copy and use the Demux button to demux it.

  3. I already demuxed the ac3 as stated in my original post I'm trying to encode xvid with ac3 but getting nowhere I have the ac3 codec installed but it keeps giving me a message of error initializing audio stream compression, the requested conversion is not possible. I keep getting this with what ever ac3 5.1 compression I use, and yes the ac3 file is 5.1

Run the AC3 file through AC3 fix to check for errors.

  7. I don't get it. Why are you messing with the audio at all? You got the audio and the D2V after using DGIndex, didn't you? The whole point of using DGIndex (well, one of the points anyway) is that it allows you to use the D2V together with the DGDecode.dll in an AviSynth script file to frameserve into VDubMod. You can do any filtering (crop, resize, IVTC, denoising, etc) within the .avs. You can use Fast Recompress instead of Full Processing, so encoding is 25-30% faster and the quality better. Leave the audio alone and mux it in after the video encoding is finished. If you're going to do it, you may as well do it right. Check out the Quick Start Guide that comes with DGMPGDec for setting up your script after getting the D2V.

If you have AC3 and you want AC3, then you don't need to decode it. Just direct stream it.

  10. ..you cant mux audio into an avi file .

Don't be absurd. Of course you can. I've done it thousands of times, MP3 and AC3 both.

When I have an AVI file (I'm talking XviD and DivX here) that has muxed AC-3 audio then I always demux with VirtualDubMod.

However I always have to run it through AC3Fix to make it "usuable" otherwise DVD authoring software rejects it.

AVI-Mux GUI is probably better for demuxing AC3. Should be no need for AC3Fix.

That is good to know although I've never had a trouble with AC-3 audio demuxed with VirtualDubMod ... so long as I run it through AC3Fix ... but in the future I will try AVI-Mux Gui

    Thanks for the tip
