Well I have had very few problems going from DVD to DVD-r until now. Just very recently I have intermittently been making coasters with concentric circles of missing data - almost looks like the laser had turned off for a period of time and then kicked back on. Is that a sign of a failing burner? I use DVD Shrink and Nero and a dedicated PC to burn with (PC does very little else). This Lite-On drive uses burn-proof. Thanks for any input.

Had those also - Used other media - problem gone. So, I'd say it's down to crap media (I think the ones I had problem with was AN31 or AN32 media code.) Luckily, it was only a 10-pack, and about 5 of these came out coasters. Those which didn't show these rings worked fine tho.

Well I have to admit that these were the cheapest cakebox discs I have ever bought at 16 cents each. They are the Staples house brand. Of course I snapped up alot of them. Oh well. The ones that burn ok seem fine. So nobody else has seen this problem before? If I can figure out how I'll post a picture.

    What media code?
Hint - Don't use space in image file names!

Yup - exactly how mine looked too. If it was only always that easy to spot a bad burn!

Actually, I've had no problem with CMC media, even if LordSmurf (www.nomorecoasters.com) lists it as:
    3RD CLASS MEDIA
Quality can be very questionable, about 50-80% success rate:
    ...
CMC, CMCMAG = CMC Magnetics (Taiwan) = (+R)
    ...

I have tried a different burner on a different PC and sure enough it's the media. I am taking this cakebox back to Staples and hope the other boxes don't exhibit the same problem - but I know that's wishful thinking. I have never encountered bad media before - guess I've been lucky 'til now.
