    Greetings,

    I capture movies on an ATI AIW to mpeg2 files, divided into 1GB segments. I wish to make these into DVD's. My question is;
    Must I convert these into DVD format, since DVD is mpeg2 anyway or can I just go straight to the authoring step?

    Believe it or not, I did spend many hours pouring over different forum entries, faq's and articles, but still not clear.
    Thanks for any help.

    if the mpeg2s are dvd compliant you can author directly,
    www.videohelp.com/dvd#tech or just test add them in for example tmpgenc dvd author and it will tell you if they are dvd compliant

    mpeg2 can be DVD compliant or can be in any number of oddball resolutions and aspect ratios. Have a look at What Is DVD at the top left, look up the DVD compliant resolutions (ie 720 x 480, 352 x 480, etc) and capture in one of those. You will then just be able to go straight to the authoring stage.

    Some players will play raw mpeg files, others wont and must have them compiled into a DVD structure.
