    Hi Folks,

    I have some MPEG2 files (DVD compliant) that have been converted from old VHS tapes in high bitrates with space-demanding LPCM audio, the files are too big considering their quality.

    I am considering converting them to a less-demanding MB format, with means to appreciate them in a big 50” LCD TV through a media player.

    Please, would you recommend a specific file format that would meet my needs ? And a software to do the conversion in batch mode ? Please, keep in mind that the quality has to be good enough for 50" TV viewing.

    Also, is there a software that would convert ONLY the audio to AC3 or MPEG2 in batch mode, without touching the video ?

    Thanks a lot,

    Zetti

    No problem. First, you separate audio and video streams by demuxing with PGCDemux (free, here in the Tools section) or TMPGEnc's MPEG Tools. Take the PCM .wav audio file and convert it to AC3 using the WAV to AC3 Encoder (a nice GUI for Aften). Finally, remux the new AC3 audio file with the video using ImagoMPEG-Muxer. Everything here is free and easy.

    Thanks, but I`m talking about say 400 files, so a batch mode is mandatory;

    Also, video conversion is still the main idea;

    Thanks again,

    Conversion to what? Xvid, perhaps? Consider AutoGK, alltoavi, or StaxRip.

    Encoding takes lots of time. You may just want to get a bigger hard drive and transfer your movies over to it without conversion.
