I have a Leadtek PVR2000 card I've been using successfully for a while with my old system (1.6 ghz AMD w Win Xp Pro). Just had to buy a Hp Pavilion when the old one finally died. This P4 system has Win Media Center 2005. My capture card isn't on the approved list of capture cards, but I threw it in, installed the drivers and I was able to successfully use the TV tuner. I can also still do AVI captures.

When I finally got around to doing a hardware Mpeg-2 capture (which I could do in the old system) I got a 'fail to use the codec - hardware mpeg2 codec' error message. I realize this may be because of the OS but if anyone has any ideas that could make it work , please suggest one.
    I tried reinstalling the drivers.

FWIW The files in the driver install program are:
    cpnotify.ax, prxypage.ax, msvcp70.dll, msvcp70d.dll, msvcr70.dll,
    msvcr70d.dll, & cxtvrate.dll

I ran Gspot to see the list of video codes & it reports:

1st off may be a driver or compatibility prob, so might google on your capture hardware & OS etc... 2nd thought is you really don't need hardware compression anymore, so it might be easier and give a better result going to software compression to mpg2 during capture. I've got a modest machine and it uses something like 13% of cpu capturing to mpg2.

Separate from drivers, I've usually seen codec related files installed that you've not listed as being in your card's install program -- is there something or options maybe you haven't installed that came with your card?

Otherwise, it can get complicated - the way windows handles codecs is sort of dismal -- basically it will use what it feels like. Another prob. is different prog. basing their bundled codecs on the same licensed code (mainconcept is common), but altering it a bit so individual files are not compatible between versions. Installing older software can't be counted on to replace newer, incompatible, encoder related files.

In your situation, I think I'd 1st compare files that would be installed with your card, and then comparing them to versions already installed either with windows or other apps. In case of conflicting versions, have had limited success making sure all needed files are located in the program's file folder rather then windows\system or system32, &/or renaming files with the same name. Sometimes I've had success making sure files needed by the prog are registered using regdrop.exe

DXMan from AnalogX can tell you which files are registered to be used in windows, and can be a big help tracking this stuff down. It may be worth a try renameing files to disable your mainconcept, intervideo, & lead codecs.

thanks for the ideas - software mpeg2 also now fails to work (same error message). Right now the only thing that will work is AVI captures. I can do that & use TmpgEnc but I was looking to save time by using the hdwr/software mpeg2 captures.

oops - forgot lesson #1 - go look for updated drivers. Leadtek had MCE drivers and now everything works fine.
