My vobs completely lose contrast when I play them with Media Player and the playback in Sony Vegas Move Studio. At first I thought it was ffdshow messing with the levels but it wasn't checked. I have to admit I'm bit it lost on what to do.

    Taken with Vlc.

    In Move Studio.

At a guess, Media Player is using the overlay, which has been adjusted to increase contrast on playback, and Vegas is showing you the video as-is.

The same thing happens with Kmplayer so I thinking my default mpeg2 decoder is doing it to all three playbacks. I'm not sure how to uninstall it though or even if that's the best thing to do :/.

  4. Neither Vegas, KMplayer or VLC use the default system directshow MPEG2 decoder, they all use internal decoders

Along the lines of what Gunsl1inger said, I think it's more of a renderer issue than a decoder issue.

e.g. if you use mpc and switch from overlay to vmr9, everything gets washed out, and the luminace is screwed up. Also if you have more than 1 video application open, only 1 can use the overlay at a time, so the 2nd application will look washed out.

It's a renderer issue then? Why would Vegas and Mplayer only being having this problem? Vlc and Kmplayer(after changing the renderer) are not.

On a side note the reason I thought it was the decoder it's only happening with mpeg2. Vegas and Mplayer can play everything else fine.
