Philips dvd+-rw dvd8631 - having problems

ok for awhile i had trouble reading dvd+rw's for some reason but now seems to be working alright, the problem now is that for some reason i cant erase my dvd+rw's? when i try to format, says its read only? and if i try to use a program like nero or sonic it acts as if theres no disc in the drive to be erased? can anyone help me

also when i go to sonic and go to disc information, the dvd+rw disc is a single layer dvd rom, closed, data


but when i put a blank dvd+rw in thats exactly what it says it is


so am i unable to rewrite the disc because of what i burned to it? im confused

how did my rewritable turn into a single layer dvd rom, which i cant write over?

wow... no help from me... but to let you know i had the same problem with my cyberhome 1600 after i upgraded the firmware. I even tried erasing it in windows XP always came up read only. very strange. i am hoping someone has that answer. or can guide to the answer if it is in a previous post.
