Ok..... I ripped a widescreen format 16:9 dvd.
When I encode with TMPGeng, I leave the source at 16:9 but should I leave the source method as "Keep aspect ratio" (where it looks like a 5 inch bar movie or use 'Full Screen' where the movie still looks letterboxed. Is the second going to look somewhat distorted (stretched)??
Please advise is anyone has alot of experience in this area.
thanks

If you're making a VCD or SVCD, you have no choice but to use "Full Screen, Keep Aspect Ratio". It's because your movie must be plastered onto a 4:3 frame, no matter if it's widescreen or 4:3 from the start.
So, the result is you get the 16:9 picture, and black bars on the top and bottom. No way around it (it can't be anomorphic, but correct me if I'm wrong). -
I have a tmpeg template that u or anyone can try. it's for 16:9 movies 23fps. I used it to make many movies that look good enough for me. I use this to fit 110-122 min on 1 99min cdr in VCD. also nice up to 100 or so min on 80 min disk.It uses mpeg1 so I guess it's xvcd. Best for mid to low action movies. very clear. just email me at wcw8181@attbi.com and I will send it.
