  1. I've got a divx-encoded AVI, a .ssa subtitle file for it, and I need to know the easiest way to make this into a DVD. I have that DIKO set, so just about every tool is included there. I looked through the different tutorials and saw how to add subtitles to a video, but those end up with raw video or another divx...I'd like to keep the steps few, so I don't lose too much quality.

    Simplest way - get subtitle workshop and convert the .ssa subs to .SRT subs. Use DivxtoDVD2 to create the DVD - no menu though. TDA can quickly add a menu with little effort required. Fast, simple, relatively cheap.

  3. Hey, I never bothered making menus when I was using DIKO. I'll look for that app, sounds great. Thank you.

  4. Maybe I did something wrong....but I did exactly what you said and the result is DVD files with no subtitles.

    Load AVI in VirtualDub. Add .ssa with the textsub filter. Frameserve to mp2 encoder (TMPGEnc, MainConcept...) Encode to DVD specs mpeg2. Author.

  6. See, I know nothing about dvd authoring so that's a bit of a problem. Is there anything simpler?

    edit: virtualdub screws up the file; delays the audio by several seconds. I can't have that.

    virtualdub screws up the file;
    More likely, the AVI is screwed up, or at least done in a non standard way. (VDub isn't exactly know for screwing things up...) You didn't get a warning about VBR audio stream or something when you opened the AVI, did you?

    You're not into authoring yet - it's video conversion.
    Head over to the CONVERT section left, select AVI to DVD, start reading the guides. When you've managed to create a DVD compliant mpeg from youyr AVI, let's get back to the DVD authoring topic...
