  1. Hello-
I am using the latest version of Clone DVD/AnyDVD. After having no problems whatsoever with the prior version, I am now getting "Write Error-Probably Bad Media" errors writing to TY 8x disks in a Pioneer 108. The error comes up about 30 seconds into writing the files. Replacing the disk with another from the same spindle (purchased from RIMA) will result in either another error, or a problem free write.

Previously I had been able to write to these disks with no coasters, ever. Writng to them with Nero works as usual, though naturally I can't write to the same disks because Clone DVD has written a small amount on them, and they are now unusable.

Is this new version more touchy about the media it will write to? I would be happy to downgrade to the earlier version of CloneDVD, but have deleted the original download.

    Suggestions?

    Thank you.

@photoman2, Is the only change upgrading to the new version? I have never purchased TY's from RIMA, I typically go through Supermediastore. Ty's 01 and o2's 4x and 8x (I always burn at 4x). Have you checked for any firmware update for the pioneer?

p.s. I use many progs, and CloneDvd2 (lastest version) no problems...burning to Ty's, Verbs, and Maxells

Yes, that's the only change.I upgraded the firmware in the Pioneer about a month ago, before the current problem. The writer regularly writes TY 8x at 12 X, with no read errors.

I will check for a later firmware upgrade, but can't right now because I'm on a different machine.

I also got the "write error-probably bad media" writing to a 4x TDK (From Costco-Taiwan-made) then the next two were fine.

What I have learned is that media is critical. I started using TY's, Verbs, and Maxell (Japan) and I never have a problem with burning and they always play on every standalone machine. I typically get 100 Ty's for $32.00 includes shipping.

  5. Yes, I've learned that the hard way. My latest purchase was 200 TY 8X, which I'm going to go through quickly if I keep burning coasters with Clone DVD!

I'm using the latest (1.20 April 28, 2005) firmware for the Pioneer.

I'm going to try burning with my Lite On and see if it improves matters.

I can understand your frustration, have you tried Intervideo Copy 3...It is second only to Rebuilder Pro/CCE Basic as an encoder in my list of progs. Many have had issues with the re-authoring, but I have only had two issues with two movies (both WB) that when I used Movie Only the audio streams were not correct. Beyond that I have had great success. I also like the burn-on-the-fly for non-compression copies. I have watched them completely and they play flawlessly without any glitches. I am currently using Recode 2...just for something new. I like the results so far. Realize that quality is a big issue with me as in my home theater I view everything on a 55 inch 16X9 HDTV. You can download Copy 3 from www.intervideo.com.

  7. Thanks. I'll give it a try. I've also posted to the Elby support address, asking if they can send me the prior version, as a test.

I also tried writng at 8x and 4x, with no better results. DVD Shrink worked fine, same spindle of disks....

    You're right, it IS frustrating!
