After many years absence from video editing I have recently been using an Ezcap 166 USB capture device and the supplied Arcsoft Showbiz DVD 2 software on my Toshiba Equium P300-16T laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium) to capture video from a variety of sources e.g VCR-analogue Sony Camcorder and digital Canon MV530i camcorder.

Apart from a bug in the Showbiz DVD2 software (think it might only apply to Vista) that prevents audio being heard in either the preview or capture windows the captures have worked OK. The audio and video are in sync in the captured file. Even a two and a half hour VHS capture wrote to DVD no problem. Have also written several other DVDs also no problem.

Showbiz DVD2 has only limited editing capabilities so decided after reading reviews to buy the boxed version of Powerdirector 8 and installed yesterday, also applied the patch to bring it up to v2508. Did a test capture from VHS and was gutted to see that the video & audio were out of sync straight away (get audio through the preview/capture window with PD8 and I do mean straight away, within about one second.

Posted a question on the Cyberlink User Board and got a reply saying didn't know why this was happening and suggesting I split the video & audio tracks and then tweak the audio to align with video. Replied back asking for some help as not got any experience with PD8 and got email this morning about a reply but when I tried to read it got an error that the topic was not found. Seems my post has been deleted, perhaps because I said I found it strange that Showbiz DVD2 works OK but PD8 doesn't when I'm using the same capture hardware. Have contacted one of the moderators who is investigating why it's been deleted.

PD8 has lost of features I'm sure I will find useful but I was hoping to make life easier by sticking to one piece of software for the whole process.

I know from my past experiences with various capture devices, including Pinnacle, that lip sync has always been an issue, but can anyone offer any clues as to why Showbiz DVD2 works OK but PD8 doesn't, and even better a solution?

    Thanks

I also use Showbiz dvd2, came with hardware VC100U, how do you find the quality on the dvd player(not the mpg file on the computer) compares with the original vhs tape resolution? Showbiz has given me some reasonable results, but of late the end result does not compare too favourably with the original tape resolutuon! you may find the attached doc makes interesting reading - wonder how your PD8 problem plays out?

Hi not really done much burning at the moment so can't really comment.

As for PD8 have now been in contact with a USA guy who has confirmed that he has been using PD8 with a the Diamond One-Touch Video Capture VC500.

He has also used the KWorld DVD Maker USB 2.0 but that isn't as good as it has a separate audio cord.

Both work in PDR8 ULTRAand have been used capture from a VCR.

Quoted the Cyberlink reply to them and like me he doesn't understand a word of what they are saying.

Still haven't resolved the audio synch issue and suspect it is just one of things associated with my system unless some forum user can come up trumps.

Sorry to hear my attachment makes little sense, I found it quite interesting to say the least, might be very worth while finding someone who can 'translate' for you, if you're still having difficulties - good luck!

Hi, sorry if I gave the wrong impression. I had come across that document before and it certainly makes informative reading.

I did dabble in video transfer years ago with a Pinnacle Dazzle device I was assured would work but the video/audio sync problem existed. Fortunately I was able to sell it for what I paid for it.
