    Click on the button on the right that says "Compare". Good animation to explain the difference. Sounds like D is the way to go, but it is more expensive. Do some research to determine if the D chip runs hot- if so, look for a 3rd party heat sink that can handle it better than the stock Intel one. When you're rendering video footage and encoding, you often have 100% CPU usage for hours on end.

    Pentium D is better than Pentium 4. AMD Athlon 64 X2 is better than Pentium D. AMD 64 X2 is also cooler than Pentium D.
