I recorded a DVD-R to it's fullest capacity ( 2hrs. 4 mins 9 secs) and I cannot finalize the disc. I am able to play it back on the recorder, but not my standalone or computer (which I am usually able to if finalized).
any way I can finalize this dvd-r with either my dvd recorder, or via computer??
thanks in advance.

Only the recorder can finalize it.

thanks for your reply. actually the recorder said it finalized the disc. but I suspected something was amiss when it completed the process in 1 sec versus about 30 secs that it usually takes. guess I'll have to run the Hi-8 tape one more time.
Question: will I run into this problem again if I fill the DVD-r to it's maximum capacity? is there some rule of thumb that might suggest how much time/Megs I should leave on the dvd-r so that it can finalize correctly? The next to last dvd-r I burned had 2hrs 2mins and change, and finalized fine. thanks again for your expertise. -
The disc may be bad.

I've had a couple of DVD's that ran the full distance in my DVD Recorder that acted funny. Now I never let the recorder end the recording for me....I make sure I'm there to do it.

I have had similar problems with My LiteOn 5005 when I let it run until it is full (untimed recording). Even though it appears to finalize in the recorder, the disc structure is weird and it doesn't work right in any other player or my computer. Now, I either use timed recording or stop it myself before the disc is completely full. Then it finalizes OK and works wherever I play it.

What model recorder to you own? I ask because my Pioneer DVR-320 can record in DVD-Video or DVD-VR modes. Both can be finalized, but DVD-VR discs are much harder for computers/stand-alones to read (at least in my experience). Try DVD-Video mode if you're not using it.
