I had good luck with the old Studio product from Pinncale (I am assuming that is the manufacture your talking about for Studio 7) but I have not been able to get my upgrade to Studio 7 to read in MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 files in order to edit them. My old system was supplied with the MP10 capture hardware and worked great. I was looking into moving up to MPEG-2's and was informed to upgrade to Studio 7. So I did and then found out it did not work with my old MP10. Pinnicale never indicated this until after the fact. So I found a new capture system that will capture into MPEG-2. Now I thought I was set and now I find I can't bring in MPEG files like I could in the old version of the software. It seems Studio is only designed to bring in DV's. The old system was a true MPEG editor. I am not sure if Studio 7 is. It has been discuraging since I very much enjoyed the old Studio product. Sorry this does not answer your question. I believe it should produce MPEG's like the old Studio but I can't get my files in to tell if it will render a new MPEG.

I upgraded to Studio 7 since I liked Studio 1 which came with my DC10+ card. The software has many bugs and I have given up on it for now. I understand the programmer had some personal problems but is working on a fix. I will wait a little longer since the editing has a lot of potential but the encoders are crap. Don't buy this for the MPEG encoders since they are very bad. Check the Pinnacle forum for all the problems people are having. I was never able to render AVI and only one short MPEG before software quit. Transistions don't work or cause problems.
Also I believe the software hosed my system but can't be sure. I had to reload Win98SE to get my sound back.

Most of the time, stand-alone MPEG encoders are better than encoders that came with capturing/editing software.
For capturing and basic editing (in AVI), I believe Studio should be OK for you. I've used the older version, and I liked it. I'm thinking that they added 'more' features in version 7, so that would be nice.
Once you've created your "masterpiece" AVI, then do the MPEG encoding using TMPGENC.

Yup.
Studio 7 is a good editor with scene dectections, and some good wipes, but the mpeg encoder is only average. You can compile your movie, export as avi, then load your edited avi into TMPG, or PWI. -
Hello all,
I too have had the MP10 unit with the Studio software. I was very pleased with easy of use of the Studio product. I went to the support page of there website not to long ago and it said they no longer will be supporting MP10. Then I go a splash window to ungrade to Studio version 7. I quickly read through it and thought it sounded pretty cool and did the upgrade. That was a mistake. I should have done a lot of homework verses believing that they were providing an upgrade. Frist thing found out was that MP10 is no longer supported as capture hardware. I contacted them about that and they said to hang loose that they are working on a release that will handle the DC10. OK. I figure I'll wait and keep using the old stuff. I bought a ADS USB instant DVD unit and now can make MPEG-2 files. I did not like the interface of the Video Studio Software they provided so I thought hey I can use the Studio 7 and edit the MPEG2. Guess what old Pinnicle users. The new Studio 7 does on edit MPEG files in any format as did the old Studio. I just got off the line with the sales A-hole. It only edits AVI's. I told them that was a crock of crap and I would like my money back. They are unwilling to refund my money. Appearently they think I should have researched it better. No were was I ever able to find that it 1) does not support MP10, and 2) that it no longer is a MPEG editor. We had a long discussion and he informed me that it has a lot of new features to my reply that it seems to me that they just changed the features. They should have called it a new name that to sell it as a new version level.
So look out all who use Pinnicle Studio editor. Do not upgrade. Studio 7 is not what you are expecting if your already use to the older Studio that was a MPEG editor. Do not order it until you contact their sales department and get all your questions answered and that is still no indicator your going to get what you think your going to get.
I am still trying to get my money back or a product that does MPEG-2 editing like I thought the upgrade did. I really liked the easy of use the old version had for editing. I have not found anything like it yet. It is a shame that they decide that AVI files is their main file now. For one who needs to add a 20 GB drive for an AVI file just to do what you use to do with an MPEG file.
It was like pulling teeth to get a manager's name out of them. But here is the name they gave me. Kelly Kearns. But don't be suprised. I was told that she or anyone else is unavailable until next week. Not sure how I will locate her anyway since they conveintly have their phone system set up to never give you a live person anyway.
Sorry for the long grip. Just got off the phone with them after having a brainly discussion with sales and waiting for hours to get a real person. Basicly, they just don't give an F about you their customer.
