Liteon 811s + DVD+R (IS01-001-00)

Didn't pay much attention to the +R before, but now 20/30 of the +R disks (from the 100 spindle) I burnt are coasters. Seems DVD Decrypter and Nero can't finalize the disk. When insert the failed disk, DVD Decrypter says it's incomplete, and DVD player spins forever try to find the disks. PC won't recognize it.

Followed the instructions from cdfreaks.com, add the media type to my burner, now I can burn at 8X instead of 4X, but the incomplete problem still exists.

Could somebody please help me, this is really driving my crazy.

While changing to a different strategy usually produces better results than using the drive's generic strategy, it doesn't change the fact that you are not using a strategy that was not specifically designed for that media type. If after trying changing the strategy, you still have this problem, then see if you can find a better strategy. If you can't, then it means that there isn't a strategy that is suitable for this media type, and there's not much that you can do about it.

IS01-001 is pretty dodgy media, so I won't be surprised if there isn't any strategy out there that can help. I guess the moral of the story is, avoid cheap dodgy media such as Laser, Bulkpaq, etc., in the future.

that's exactly what I was thinking about after I post the msg . Saving money is one thing, but all the money I saved won't make me feel any better in this case.

that's why I keep on trying different strategies, the sooner I get rid of this spindle, the better I feel.

Hey, it's you. Thank you so much for your help. Recognize you from your ID. Didn't have much to burn till this morning. Tried all the methods you recommended. But the problem still exists.

Do you know why the softwares won't finalize? Only because the writing strategy is not correct?

tried all the cominbations i can think of, such as in iso-write mode, auto->DVD; close disc; change book type, burning at a slower speed (both in DVD Decrypter and Nero) etc. still got the problem. thinking about opening the case to clean the lasor head, but before doing that, borrowed a -R disc, voila, the disc is burnt perfectly alright.

because i had similar problems with +R before, so my question is: is liteon 811s really a dual format burner? is there a way to improve its capability in burning +R disks? because the other burner i have (i/o magic IDVD8DBE) gave me the same headache, i thought it must be the software. but it turns out to be the hardware. now that i know the reason, i feel much better. thank you so mcuh for your help.
