I had been using my Sony D8 Camcorder to transfer the files
through a generic 1394 card without problem for a long time but I
have not done it for a while. Recently when I tried connecting
the camcorder to the same PC, the PC fails to recognize the
camcorder as a DV camcorder, but rather it says the camcorder
is a 61883 device (or was it 63881) and the device was working
properly. Obviously it cannot transfer any of the video with
such device. I have checked with microsoft's knowledge base
but it says the problem should have been fixed with SP2. I am
running XP Home/SP2. I took the camcorder and the cable to
another PC running same operating system and the camcorder
can be recognized properly. Both computer has the same 61883.sys,
1394.sys, and sonydcam.sys (I forget the actual name). Therefore it is not the camcorder nor
the operating system(?), nor cable. Does anybody has an idea
what the problem might be? Thanks for the help.
