depends on what the device is? something hooked up externally, internally in the case or is it a motherboard device that is listed as unknown? is there maybe a mediacard reader in the case?

What is the USB device? Or does it do it with all USB devices? Have you tried different USB ports? The rear ports usually work better than the front ports.

  4. Disconnect your USB stuff. Then plug them in one by one until you get that msg. Then put on a driver for that thing. What type of computer is this?

Deeper problem with this error message:
often as regards printers re-plugging in another port simply brings up this message again,
and windows tells you to "discard the device"
this can be fixed usually by uninstalling -and then reinstalling -USB printing support
(often incorrectly identified as "unknown device" in device manager--just remove)

sometime even the registry gets corrupted you must manually or with a real cleaner remove hundreds of entries

then again, you could get a USB addin card, totally seperate usb ports and workaround all previous USB windoze bugs

i dont know guys, all my drivers are in correctly, however i did notice that one of my usb connectors on my physical mobo is faulty. I say this because i cannot plug anything into it with out the blue screen of death then coming on or my comp restarting. Literally i had just reformatted the other day, and had my external usb cd drive plugged in their and the comp would not move past the post screen, but as soon as i took it out ev everything worked, i even noticed it before i formatted when i had my wireless blue tooth dell usb mouse. It would never work, however, i think on another tip that it only will work for light weight things, because my wired usb mouse can be in their with out problems..holla back

One problem to consider. Have you plugged anything into that problem port after the boot sequence has finished and Windows is running? The reason I mention this is some USB devices have problems if connected during boot. Depends on the device, the motherboard and it's BIOS settings most times. But if the OS thinks that device is a bootable drive, it can stuff up the system if there is no boot .ini, etc., on the drive. I've had problems with some motherboards when I left a USB thumb drive plugged in, then rebooted.

And then there is the device itself. You don't seem to know which one it is? I would unplug them and try to find out which one may be causing the problem and what type of device it is. That would probably narrow down the possibilities.

    Just some suggestions.
