i have a movie i downloaded in xvid format. the resolution is 640x272 (2.35:1) as reported by Gspot. i want to convert the video to dvd. what would be the best resolution to make it without any clipping of the video (cropping)? thats for all of your help.

  2. If you're converting to 'DVD', you have 3 choices: 720x480, 352x480, and 352x240. 720x480 would be the best choice unless it's 3+ hours long, then consider a lower resolution because of the lower bitrate.

Next time just say "i have a movie in xvid format."Doesnt sound as warez. As to the ratio just encode as 720x480/576 anamorphic and it will be resized properly if you encode it right.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

720 x 278 if you want letterbox (NTSC)
720 x 371 if you want anamorphic (again, NTSC)

    correct to use fitcd....

after numerous attempts to convert xvid ( 560x 374) and getting stretched out dvd's, i've found the best way to do it.

    programs..

    avisynth
    fitcd
    tmpgenc

    install each of above

open fitcd and load source xvid movie

    i chose 704x480..closest to 560x374
save avi synth script( at bottom)

    open tmpenc
    choose ntsc
load the avisynth script by selecting browse and using all files

this made a excellent dvd and it was also very fast, under 2 hours...

dont ask me how i did this.... cause i dont know.lol

let me know how this works for all u guys

    mike

p.s.- this should work with all avi's...i guess
