  1. Hi. Let me start this off by saying I am probably what most would consider a total noob to this whole video thing. I know enough to be dangerous I guess but not much more.

That said, I am trying to take a DVD that is incomplete, rip what is there to the PC, then take a VHS converter and read the rest of the file to the PC and then join the 2 so I can reconvert and burn to a new DVD. What fun!

Ripping went smoothly, as did the read from the VHS converter. It is the join that is giving me problems.

    The rip is MPEG2, 720x576, 29.97 fps, 4:3
    The VHS conversion is MPEG1, 352x240, 29.97 fps, 1:1

I tried to join with VideoReDo but it complained they both need to be MPEG2. Fine, I converted the VHS to MPEG2. Then it said they were not the same size. So I tried to resize the VHS with DVDPatcher and the resulting file is just the original sized video stuck on a bigger green screen.

Is there a (freeware) way to get these two files joined and the same size? Losing some quality is not really a huge issue because the VHS tape was wonky from the start and there are some skips and such.

WAY too small and only MPEG1. Re-capture the VHS at normal 720x576 MPEG2.

  3. So I finally found how to config my VHS converter but the best it will do is MPEG-2, 720x480, 4:3.

Is there a way I can RESIZE the resulting video instead of just sticking the same sized video onto a green backdrop that is 720x480 (which is what DVDPatcher is doing)?
