I finally gave in and decided to try XP and I'm having trouble with ffdshow and virtualdub. In 98 I can get virtualdub to open avi files with ffdshow by just going into the VFW configuration for ffdshow and changing the decoder for each format from disabled to libavcodec. Doing the exact same thing in XP I still get the message in virtualdub "could not locate decompressor format...". Is there something extra I need to do in XP to make this work or is it not possible?

Does ffdshow show up in the codec list in VDub?
Because there was a problem with the NSIS script in the 2004-10-12 build (think it was that one) and NT based systems where it used the long path for the vidc.ffds entry instead of the short path. Don't think it effected 9x/ME.
Two solutions;
1) Install a newer version
2) Change the registry entry from program files to progra~1. -
1. didn't know there was a new version, sourceforge hasn't been updated.
but
2. fixed it anyway.
thanks.
