When converting my avi file to Mpeg2 it seems to be ok with Tmpgenc plus, it indicates at the bottom of my screen (MPEG-2 720x480 29.97fps CBR 8000kbps). But when I verify with AVIcodec it shows me Mpeg-1. When I check some of my Mpeg work from the past using AVIcodec it clearly indicates Mpeg-2. What am I doing wrong? I recently updated to the New Tmpgenc plus.

Maybe I wasn't to clear on my previous post. What I was trying to say was Tmpgenc is not trancoding the AVI file to MPEG-2. For some reason Avicodec shows me the avi file is transcoded into MPEG-1.

  3. Try to open the file in GSpot and see what it says.
When I was born I was so shocked that I could'nt speak for 18 months.

    Interesting, Gspot says Mpeg-2 ,
I guess, Avicodec not reliable info source?
    Thanks

  5. You are using an old GSpot. Take 2.52b2 (or it was b1).

  9. Hey, wait a minute. In GSpot you are importing the elementary stream, but in avicodec you are loading the program stream. What is if you load elementary stream in avicodec or the program stream in GSpot?

    Your a genius..that's it
But I thought Mpeg 2 was the quality of video and the audio had nothing to do with Mpeg 2. So basically are you saying only video would be Mpeg 1? Am I getting this right?.. this doesn't sound right I'm confused..

  11. It is a matter of multiplexing. For example multiplex audio and mpeg2 video in TMPG selecting the "MPEG1 VCD (non-standart)" in MpegTools and the output will be recognised as mpeg1 because the mutiplexer re-write the headers of the video file. I have used quite often the opposite approach - encoding mpeg1 in TMPG and mutilexing as SVCD in bbMPEG with two audio tracks (VCD can have only one audio) and after that multiplexing subtitles with WinSubMux (it recognises it as mpeg2 file!) and authoring and burning the SVCD in VCDEasy - recognised as mpeg2 file aswell. My player has no probs with such a SVCD.
Then maybe some settings in TMPG are not correct - I see from your first post you are encoding for DVD. Well, I don't know what can be wrong - if you load DVD template everything should be OK.
