  1. i am trying to join two audio files with vitualdub, and it says that "the audio streams have different sampling rates". its not allowing me to join them. is there a way i can make the sampling rate the same? or some way to get around this problem?

  2. You will have to resample one to match the other. If neither meet the final requirement (44.1khz for (S)VCD or 48khz for DVD) then you might as well resample both to the correct value before joining thus avoiding a second resampling later.

    virtualdub.

    Audio->Full processing mode
    Audio->Conversion (select sampling rate reqd)
    Audio->Compression (select None (PCM)
    File->Save wav.

    This will probably be quite a large file. Larger than the video if it is divx/xvid.

    I converted the file...and i got a wav file. Now what do I do with it? How do I join it back into the original avi? And then how do I join with the other file? The other file has to go through this process as well eh?

  6. What you do now depends on what you finally want to do with it (covert to DVD or (S)VCD, make one big avi for PC playback etc...). Tell me that and I will tell you how I would handle it.

    I'm gonna make a dvd out of it. One of the parts is only 50+min...so I wish to combine both to make full use of a single DVD-R.
    Thanks bugster for agreeing to help! Hope to finally solve this prob.

    Edit: Just some extra info for ya.. I also use Tmpgenc to encode and Tmpgenc Author to author the dvd. Works great.

    In that case you can forget about all the hassle resampling audio in vdub or joining the avis in vdub. Simply encode each clip to mpeg spereatley, letting Tmpgenc resample each one to 48khz, calculate the video bitrate depending on the TOTAL playing time. Then import into TmpGenc DVD Author and tell it to play one clip after the other. (Don't ask me for exact settings to do this, I only know it can be done because I have seen many other TDA users suggest this!).
