  1. I am converting home-recorded Hi8 camcorder & SVCR analog tapes to DVD using ADS Pyro A/V Link over firewire using Ulead Studio7 set to "Best" quality.

Why does the objects in the converted DVD-video look nasty when they are fast-moving? Is this attributeable to the 30 frame per second issue vs the normal 60?? Videos of cars or kids on bicycles or folks jogging or basketball game look terrible...almost like a 1920's movie. Pictures with little or no motion look great. When I hit still frame on my DVD or Ulead I can see a smooth, blurred section on any moving object. Upon playback, this blurred outline of the object seems to alternate back an forth is a sort of jagged fashion every dozen or so lines. Basically, objects on the screen are distorted such that edges look like a square wave.

Thanks for any opinion or replies.
I use DVD Decripter, DVDShrink, Nero 6 with my Liteon 411S. Works great!

  2. It sounds like you are seeing interlace artifacts. Read up on interlace.

You probably have the field order backwards. In Ulead Video Studio right click on the source file and change the source field order. That should fix it.

I also use ADS pyro AV link and
am very happy with the results when used in combination with TMPGENC.
Maybe you should try a different encoder. I tried Ulead a long time ago and hated it. Experiment with some other encoders, I'm sure you'll get better results.
